puppy barks when i put him down from couch
Hello everyone,
I have a 8-mouth miniature Dachshund named Ruffy. He is very active healthy and friendly dogs, most of the time. He has his own personality and quite determined. I guess i should not compliant but sometimes he's a bit of a headache. More specifically, most of the time when I am home with him, he is pretty good and calm and no barks at all. But when my bf comes home and sit on the couch, that's when all the jumping and barking come. My puppy has no issue obeying to my order, such as: sit, laid, roll and stay still, etc. But just when we stop him when he's trying to jump up to the couch, he either jumps all around and barks, or yapping with lips lift up showing teeth. we stop him jumping on the couch only because it is not good for his spine, as he has long spine. So i want to know if there is any way that we can use to let him stop jumping on the couch without barking and showing teeth. ![]() ![]() |

This little fellow could use an attitude adjustment. He seems to think it's all about him, and when he has competition for your attention he acts up and demands your attention.
He could use more structure in his world. Try working on a bigger vocabulary so that you have more opportunities to engage him. Teach him that calmness, patience and sitting will get him the attention he wants. You should try to encourage him to play independently as you share the couch with your BF. The baring of teeth could be assertive, demanding behavior or it coud be a submissive grin. I am leaning towards the former as the rest of your description sounds assertive. But I could be wrong because I have not witnessed the behavior. Having him the leash during these challenging times could help you have some control while you are teaching him better manners. Be sure the leash is loose and used for correction or direction and then right back to loose. This way you are not holding him back or down but he is choosing to stay calm.

I am thinking it happens mostly when my bf and I both sit on the couch and that ticks him off. Competition as you said i think lol.
Long way to go. Thank you for your advice. We should start training him for better temper lol |
