Collar Question

My girl Izzy came home from the shelter w/a collar and nametag on. So I had a new nametag engraved w/her name and my phone number. Shortly afte that (well maybe 4-6 weeks) DS and I were home - thank goodness - and she made this horrible noise and we rushed to her and she had her tongue stuck in her color. Since it was a break-a-way one we were able to remove it and then her tongue was released. Scared the you-know-what out of us.

DS said no more collor. But a few months ago, I decided to try again, so bought a brand new one and got it on her and all was good. Just figured there was something wrong w/the old one. Until, it happened again.

Has anyone ever had their cats tongue get stuck in their collar? Any ideas for what (if anything I should try)? I guess I jsut want to have her name and number just in case she were to ever get out of the house somehow. This is the only one I've seen at both of the pet stores near home, and I certainly dont want to get that one again. And DS really doesnt want another collar on her.

Thanks for your thoughts.

My cat Boowee ripped his whole face and mouth to shreds when his collar got caught in his mouth. (it scared him so bad he went nuts) It was horrible.

I haven't used a collar since.
I know there is a risk if he ever escapes, but it's been 13 years, and so far I haven't had a problem.....knock on wood .

Does your kitty have a microchip? That may help ease your mind a little.

My Rupert used to wear a collar until I realized his fur was getting caught, creating a mat, which led to a nasty sore. Now I just put it on for very short periods, like if I take him out to the yard to play on his leash.

Sounds like collars are pretty much out for your kitty too...
