Stump Pyometra?

Hi everyone, my previous thread is here for those who don't remember

An update; we noticed lastnight that Dakota's incision area from her spay had become infected, went to the vet this morning, and the vet confirmed it, it's been two weeks since the spay and the other vet used internal stitches. The Dr also was concerned about a hard lump near the incision site, and he also checked Dakota's vagina and some pus came out! He told me it is possible that this is "Stump Pyometra" or a vaginal infection. He wants us back in on Thursday morning to see if the Clavaseptin clears it up. He said if it doesn't then Dakota needs anther surgery because it's more than likely stump pyometra.

I'm ignorant on spaying procedures, so what I'd like to know is how come the vet left part of her uterus in? I was under the impression that all tissue would have been removed.

I know with cats, it can happen and although not common, it is frequent enough that it doesn't surprise me anymore when I hear about it.

I hope your pup recovers soon.

I am so sorry to hear about Dakota.

It doesn't happen very often and I hope your vet is not going to charge you for the second surgery, if it is needed.
