post-op recovery and life going on...

i'm just curious to know if people typically take time off work to nurse a pet who has just had surgery? i suppose it depends on the type of surgery and the health of the animal... but i feel very guilty going to work while Mimi-kitty is recovering from her spay. however, my employer would not look too fondly on my taking time off to stay home with her. i haven't got any more sick or vacation days i can use at this time.

what we've been doing is putting her in a safe room (no window ledges or high furniture to jump on - just a comfy futon, blankets, and her food/water/litterbox) while we're out at work. its boring in there, so the hope is that she'll rest. recovery is slow-going, and i'm so worried about her while i'm at work.

have many of you taken time off to be with your pet during the surgery recovery process? is this a valid excuse for taking time off? should i feel guilty going to work while she recovers? i have to pay for her care somehow... and my own, for that matter.

Don't feel guilty about going to work. I think that you have her in a safe place and she will do fine. IMO of course. If her surgery was difficult and she had complications I might have someone look in on her if you know anyone.

Now that I have said that, I am a big suck and if I could I would stay home

I took a lot of time off when Mooki got sick and ended up getting fired  I would do it over again...she needed me...she was very sick.

I took some time off to stay home with my new two when I first brought them home to make sure they adapted ok...that could have been done over a long wekeend though.

Normally, I make sure the room is safe and comfy and I go to work...sometimes I come home for lunch to check on everything though. If it's major surgery, I try to schedule it for maybe Thursday or Friday so I can stay home one or two days and then the weekend.

I had all mine S&N on a Friday, so I could be home with them for the weekend. I recently had to leave Kiska overnight at the vets, and took the day off. I don't take a whole lot of time off, so luckily when I call and tell my boss I feel sick, he believes me.

People who have kids take time off, I think people who have pets should be given the same courtesy, especially if their pets are like their kids.
