I know why we pay groomers now!

Tonight I gave Joey his first bath. He stood patiently in the tub while I bathed him and tried to get the burrs out of his hair.

Then I dried him up as best I could. I really liked his cocker cut with the long fringe but we were having problems with him getting burrs everytime we went out and it takes for ever to get them out.

So I thought I would trim him up just a bit. Well now it looks awful, all choppy and totally uneven I dont really want to keep cutting. I am definatley not good at grooming. I see why they pay people do to this now. I thought it was easy but I think I need some direction. Any advice until the hair grows back. I think may only options are to shave him down or get him a nice looking sweater.

A little advice from a groomer to you........never wet a dog that has burrs or tangles. The water tightens them up and they are impossible to get out. Use a slicker brush and work them out with that and our fingers. Make sure to do this EVERYTIME before a bath and it will go alot smoother next time.

Thanks for the advice I'll make sure I give him a good comb through before next time. At least now he smells like tea tree oil.

Actually I got most of the burrs out before, but happened to notice more when I got him in the tub. Either way there not easy to get out. My dog seems to be a burr magnet.

My dogs get to run around our land on the weekend and are always full of burrs. One of my dogs just lays down and pulls them out himself unless of course it is in an area that he can't reach. Then he comes to me for help. It is quite simple to get them out. My dogs are also swimmers so I allow them to dry completely first before trying to remove the burrs. I then use my fingers to untangle the burr.
