Damien pics!!
He was so happy when he saw me,she had to keep pulling him off me,layed at my feet the whole time,if i went to pet another dog,he did not like it,and would push the dog away, she said just by watching that, that is is very jealous ,the lady picked him up yesterday to see if he can be trained to be a service dog...God he is just so beautiful..When i left i could hear him crying at the door.

Oh he looks so content and happy there.
Glad you got to see him but I would stop going to see him, it's going to confuse him.

They do play well, which i find suprising because there are so many..He followed me everywhere when i got there, layed right between my feet when i was on couch, then got on couch layed behind me with his paw on my lap, ripped my heart out, could hear him crying when i left, she said he cried for a bit,but she tried to get him distracted with some food...Sucks,he was jumping all over me and crying when i got there, she had to keep pulling him off me,i just wish this all never happend i know he loves me so much,if you could of seen it you would know to,and i love him sooooo much,it was nice to see him.....................

I'm sure he loves you, heidi, but as you know sometimes love just isn't enough.(happens with people too!)
You did the mature, unselfish and responsible thing by giving up Damien to someone who can give him what you can't! |

I do think it's better not to visit so soon. He'll keep thinking you are coming back to get him. Eventually, he'll bond to someone else and it will be the best thing in the world that could happen. And, like you say, it tears your heart up! Do something good for yourself today! Feel better and while you're at it, do something nice for someone else who won't expect it and could use it. Guaranteed to lift you out of a blue mood!

I'm confused, must have missed a previous post. Where did you place Damien and why did you have to give him up? He IS beautiful.

Iknow i shouldnt have seen him,you guys are right,i just miss him so much and i did go there to see her cat also..I just dont understand,if you could of seen how damn exicted he was when he realized it was me standing there,it was so cute he came out barking and came to a dead stop i called him and he just jupmed all over me,til she finally pulled him off....Then he took nap right between my feet, when i started paying attention to the other dogs,he would have none of it...I will not go there again for a few months.

Heidi you should NOT see Damien anymore.
You are going there to feel better about yourself but each time he see's you he is getting confused and thinking you are there to pick him up. He will be fine, you have to just let this go! If you want ask the lady to send you pics of him but dont' torture this dogs feelings anymore then they're already. I had to give up a GSD I raised from a puppy to work as a police dog and it was so very hard to do but I was not permitted to see him after he left and it was the best thing. I would hear of updates from time to time and sometimes even see him on the news etc... but it was enough for me to know he was safe! I would not want to confuse the dog and upset him anymore then he already is.

Ok, I've searched previous posts but I still don't know where you placed him and why you gave him up. Perhaps I am not navigating properly yet. But I'm learning! Would you care to fill in the blanks for me please?
I have to agree with Luba, but Luba if you're out there....can I ask you a question? What is your opinion about dogs that have been seperated? If two dogs that lived together are adopted out into different homes, do you think it's easier on them to not "visit" each other now and then? Would that be upsetting to the dogs, in the long run? My Dane used to live and play with another Dane before being adopted out to me. Now the owner of the other Dane wants to "get them together to visit and play". I'm not sure what to do. At first I thought "No, better for Raja to forget her buddy, as she seems to have done....rather than start missing him again". But I would appreciate your input here. I'm still undecided. |

Long story short,he turned out to be very food aggressive, which led to him being what i would call jealous when i had someone stay the night from that dayon he would not let me pet him or anything he would growl at me if i did....but i love him dearly, just think he became a little to attached to me and thought i was his playmate instead of his boss..................Sounds crazy i know but after sat, when i saw how he got if i tried to pet another animal there it all adds up......He did not like me paying attention to the other dogs at all........

Hey I would think it's great to let the two Dane's see one another if they were pals.
Its not like they both lived with you or the other person right? I say let ole pals get together and have fun! Your dog and the other dog are both in respective loving homes and I can't see it confusing them at all! ![]()

I don't think it would be any different than when I take care of my mom's neighbor's dog for a month at a time. Den-Den likes the other dog, they play together really cute, but when he leaves, he's also happy to have us all to himself. I think they understand about "visiting".
In your case, Heidiho, Damien needs to feel like he belongs there, not waiting to return home. I'm not intending this to sound mean, but there's an expression to describe what you're doing to yourself. Please don't be offended but it fits so well your situation. "Masturbating the issue" means you are abusing yourself and dwelling on it and deriving a certain sense of satisfaction in beating yourself up over it. You need to let go and think of Damien's above your own needs. Sorry for how it sounds. ![]() |

I am not offended i know i am dwelling on it,nothing new to me,i am finding it hard to let go,and all the WHAT IF'S.... I loved him so much and it is very painful and hard to just say ok he is gone so be it,i do not get satisfaction in this believe me,it is just hard to accept, maybe in a month or so i will,he is the first puppy i ever had on my own and it is hard to let go and forget..

Heidi,I agree with Luba, even I cried when you said he was crying,I can imagine how you felt
![]() It would be better to let him live his new life, withoutthe upset of having you leave without him all the time. Who is this lady, does she rescue and re-home,or does she just have an awful lot of dogs ![]()

Thank you for the explanation. Sounds like it was a really tough situation. Must be confusing now to see him in a different environment, not being aggresive towards you but instead showing all the love and happiness to see you. I can understand why you are now going over the "what if"s, with your new understanding that it was just jealousy. But at the time, who knew?
It's easy to look back and beat yourself up over many things now that you have more information, but consider it a lesson learned- something you can use to understand future pets. |

Re: Luba and GlassLass' comments
Thanks, Luba and GlassLass for your input. I guess Raja is due for a romp in the park with her estranged buddy! Hope you don't think I was being foolish- she's just such an emotional dog, I didn't want to upset her. I'm a bit over-protective because of what she's been through. I get quite a few eye-rolls in my day-to-day, and reminders that "Um, she is a dog...". But hey, that's my baby.
At least she will have someone her size to play with now, as my little Spitz is NOT interested in romping with a giant. |

I know, that is why i love it here, cause you know where i am coming from,it killed me when i left and heard him cry..And when i got there and she had tp pull him off of me....What a good and horrible feeling,..She is a german shepherd rescue place, but as you can see she helps all dogs..When i got there they all just got done playing,it was so cute they were all sleeping in the living room, just so content////////////////damien was sleeping right between my feet,uh!! Yeah that was it i jsut cannot torture him or me anymore,i told her if she ever gets a dog that would fit my lifestyle to let me know, the one on the couch with damien was adorable but was only three months old,and someone was taking him anyway...I looked at her cat but didnt feel the connection....Thanks for all the support you guys,i think it will just take a little more time..............
