outside barking

I have a generally well behaved Jack dachshund mix. I love her dearly, but whenever we go outside, her incessant barking people, other dogs, squirrels, birds, leaves, etc. has got to stop! I don't want to be the "people with the big mouthed dog." Any suggestions? Please?!?

I have seen one method where if she barks at something you give a quick verbal correction and then turn and quickly walk the opposite way then turn around again once she calms down and if she starts barking again just repeat repeat reapeat, eventually she will get tired of continuously being taken in the opposite direction of what she wants to bark at and should stop barking. That's the theory anyway.

You can learn to put "bark" on cue and teach him "quiet" at the same time. You may also want to teach him a competing behavior such as "go get your ball," "let's play tug," "upstairs ( or inside, on your bed, etc) for a cookie" etc.

Here's an article that'll teach you how:
