Got attacked by my cat

This is what happened today.
I was home from work and decided to start cleaning my bedroom cause well it needed it lol. My male cat eclipse was sleeping on the bed and when i walked out of the bedroom he followed me. Thats normal he usually does. When i turned my back and walked part way through my living room he full out attacked me. He bit my leg repeatedly and scratched me cause he clung to my leg. He has had some aggression when he was little but never ever bite scratched or went after anyone. I've had him since he was 7 weeks old. He's about 3 and half years now. After i got him off of me he went after his sister and attacked her. After doctoring up my leg a bit i was walking around looking for the dr's number (its never where you left it) he kept hissing at me but wasn't really attacking again. When i let him sniff my hand he seem to remember that it was me. As i looked over his sister to see if she was alright he came toward us and she just kept hissing and wouldn't let him near us. I went to the er and I'm on antibiotics now so I'm fine. I'm going to take him to the vet's tomorrow. Has anyone heard of anything like this? He's an indoor cat. He's updated on all his shots so i don't think its rabies. After i came home and checked on everything he's been back to his loving self. I'm trying not to be scared of him though at this point its a bit hard. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks

Wow, sorry to hear about your cat attacking you, that's gotta hurt! I agree that a check-up with the vet would be a good idea, just to make sure there isn't a physical aspect to this. Sometimes if a cat is in pain or uncomfortable, it can manifest as aggression. Beyond that, it's hard to say what the trigger might have been in his case. Redirected aggression due to stress can sometimes occur in cats. Is there anything new or different going on in your household that you know about? I've heard of this before with male cats. A friend of mine's cat, completely out of the blue did the same thing, attacked her and then the other female cat in the house. Both cats had been fixed, this cat was around 2 and had always been a bit on the aggressive side.
I've had aggressive males before and so have my parents. We learned to live with it, and tried our best to keep the cats as calm as possible. Used to hit them with a spray of water from a spritz bottle when they seemed to be getting out of control. Didn't have other cats in the household to worry about with these cats either.
I'm not sure what causes it, if it's a dominance thing with them or what. Maybe a cat behaviourist could help.

ive had that happen SOmetimes it is a stress or medical though most cats hide when they are sick

Sometimes though it's just a great big mystery and it will drive ya mad if you let it
i attribite it to nightmares my self or ghosts

I hope you get to the dr to make sure you dont have infection, I hear it can be pretty bad. Be careful and hope you're all okay there.

So far I'm fine i went to the emergency room. Got a shot and I'm on antibiotics. Nothing new really going on. My kitten keeps going into heat every two weeks but thats been going on for a month and a half and he's been fine with it. He's fixed so is my other female. Yea i know it could be a physical thing thats why i'm taking him to the vet. We'll see how that turns out i'll keep everyone posted . Plus i'll put some pics up of them tomorrow when i feel better.

I had my music playing a bit loud when he came out. Now i've played it loud before but maybe today it just bothered him and since i was so close i got the anger from him. *vows never to play music again lol*

I can't offer you any real help either but I had one who did the same thing if we stopped playing with him before he was ready to stop. It was like he was saying, "come back here you, I'm not ready to stop playing yet." I guess play was a state of excited arousal for him.

Yes chico, you know how this is.

My Snowball was like this. Just out of the blue, even while I was sleeping, he would randomly attack me. If I was awake, I could sometimes stop him by staring him down and very firmly saying "no", but if he decided he was going to attack, the only defense I had was to push him away when he was in the middle of his jump. I always could tell by the look in his eyes, very intense stare, when he was going to attack.
I was the only person who could really handle Snowball and he followed me everywhere. If he didn't know where I was in the house he would howl. He would wait for me in the front window everyday until he saw my car, then he would run to the door to greet me. He slept beside me every night until he developed cancer and on his last day, he managed to climb up the side of the bed to be with me. So it was not like we weren't close, we were extremely close. Vet had no idea, I thought he had a mental illness like Schizophrenia (sp??) where he would hallucinate at times. The look in his eyes were very strange when he got into these moods.

Well update so far,
We (bf and I) took eclipse to the vet and the cat was fine. Nervous but didn't do anything. The vet and we were trying to figure out why he did it. Defentely some sort of agression thing but can't really pin point which one. They took blood work will find that out tomorrow. Physically he's fine. Just same tap worms . So now poor guy and his sister and other kitten have to be treated for worms. My poor kitten, she goes to get fixed on monday and now i have to take her to get weighed because she needs her worm meds lol.

Anyway got off track . I will be watching him from now on while i work around the house. The vet seems to think its a power struggle plus maybe the corner i was going to was his corner he seems to like to sleep under the chair. So we are going to move things around the living room change things up a bit on him see if he will chill out some. Today after we took him to the vet been very loving keeps sniffing at the area where he attacked me. The whole bottom of my legs is now brusied and scrached and well bite marks all over so i'm not so happy with him at the moment but i'm trying to be patient. I wonder if he remembers what he did. Don't know Hopefully he'll be a better behave kitty. Wish us luck.

Yikes, sorry to hear! Have you tried cat pheromones? They are available in spray form or as plug ins. Some people on the board here have had some success with those, to calm their cats down... I've found the spray works best for intense situations, like car rides, vet visits, fights, etc. Also some recommend Bach flower remedies in the cat's water, to help with issues like yours.

OMGosh, maybe he's sniffing it because of the meds?(Did you rub anything on it to make it heal?) Worms are icky I hope you guys get some answers tomorrow.

And about the picture posting question. I don't think it's about how many posts. I think it's about how many days you stay on. Cuz some people have like 3 posts and they still included attachments so just post around and read some stuff around the site. Very informative

Well got the blood work back from the vet. Eclipse seems to have a bit of a high thyroid but still within range. Vet isn't concerned i guess normal is between .5 and 4.0 he's a 2.8. She says she's never really seen a thyroid that high on a 3 year old cat. But on Friday was watching movies with finance and walked toward the kitchen when he started stalking me again and hissing. Sprayed with a water bottle this time. But he also doesn't seem to like my slippers. The time he attacked me and the time he hissed at me i was wearing them and they are new only had them a bit. Wondering if maybe he wants to attack my slippers and he's mad cause i have them. Not sure seems like such a weird stretch. From what i read and researched it seems to be a predatory aggression he's displaying. I guess that would explain why he wants to eat my slippers. Cause when i been wearing just socks he seems to chill out and he's fine with me. Working on getting some more interactive toys. He never seems to like much always been a lazy hunter. He'll let the other two catch bugs and then he'll try to eat them.

Any suggestions on how to maybe handle this type of aggression. If not i guess learn as i go lol. Plus my cuts are better. Seems one might be infected dr told me to watch it.

I'm glad your better. I don't know what to tell you about how to deal with the aggression, but I'm thinking you should get rid of those slippers. If those seem to be what sets him off, stop wearing them.

I agree, dispose of the slippers and get new ones. It may be a scent that is setting your kitty off. If only they could talk .
