Himalayan/Persian??

Is a Himalayan cat the same thing as a Persian cat?
I've always wanted a Himalayan because I love the smashed face and long hair...but all I see is "Persian" cats for adoption and they look the same to me. Forgive me if this was the dumbest question ever! lol

Hi... yes, they are one and the same. A Himalayan is a Persian cat - with points.

At one time, they were classed and shown as a seperate breed, this is where the confusion can come in.
Though they are still referred to as Himalayans, this actually only signifies the colourpoint pattern.

They are wonderful cats, mellow and very laid- back.. though of course high-maintenance kitties.

Good luck in finding one!

This is my himmy boy Basil, incredibly gentle and sweet natured.

Himalayans are a division of the Persian breed, here is a site on them: http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/persian-him.html

Oh I love the pictures of all the Himalayans! It makes me sad too. I lost mine Sept last year. He was 19 and I still miss him so bad. He was a special boy.

Thanks for asking . I keep trying to post a picture of him using the Manage Attachment thing or the link button but nothing works. The manage attachment downloads it but it doesn't show up. Can't figure out why.

He was a beautiful sealpoint and there hasn't been a day gone by since he died that I haven't thought of him. I keep looking at the Himalayans on Petfinder looking for ones that resemble Damian but even though I am drawn to them it might be a bad move to get a cat only because he resembled Damian.

Oh, I guess the file attachment thing worked after all! Here's another picture of Damian in his senior years. The first was when he was 7 years old.

Aww..he's precious, Snooky's Mom...and I'm so very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. Damian is running and playing with the rest of our furbabies that have crossed the bridge.
