Goodbye to Dean-you stole my heart and took it with you

My husband I and I adopted little Dean from Poodle rescue of New England five years ago, at the senior age of 10. We originally wanted a second dog as a companion for our year old standard poodle Lily. Kind of funny looking back on it now - Lil weighs about 65 pounds, Dean weighed in at a whopping 8! They tolerated each other tho, and I think they grew on each other. I've had pets my whole life (cats, dogs, birds, horses and the occasional rodent) and I have to say I NEVER expected to get so attached to an animal adopted in adulthood. That dog captured my heart. He wasn't housebroken and could have a little "attitude" if things weren't going his way, but everything about that dog I loved .. I just can't explain it. He was my little shadow - followed me everywhere, slept with me ... Well, he got sick in March, and he was suffering. He's waiting for me now at the Rainbow Bridge.

Here's to you my Little Man. I miss you terribly.

Little Dean

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I know how painful it is but Dean was so lucky to have the both of you for parents. He is now running and playing with my pug, Suki. Please find comfort in the fact that he's not in anymore pain. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

OH I'm so sorry for your loss!

But thank you for taking this discarded little guy at 10 years old and giving him a loving home for his golden years. He was a lucky boy to have met you.

And yes, you can love adopted adult animals as much or even more than ones you've raised and they will love you back many times over.

RIP little Dean.

So very sorry, I know exactly how you feel, but he's out there now painfree and happy with rest of the furballs, including my Max. My thoughts are with you.

Best Regards, Ramona

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and words. Everyone who knows us has said the same words "he was lucky to have had you these last years", but I so feel like it's the other way around. I wouild have cleaned up after that little guy forever if I could. Believing I'll see him again makes it much more bearable. That and having my big girl, Lily.

Thanks again.
