My kittens taught me that sometimes deception is justifiable.
My kittens HATE getting their nails trimmed. I have many battle scars to prove it!
I tried bribing them with treats, but they would just rather run away. I tried holding one down while a friend tried clipping, but the constant squirming made it impossible to cut the nail without a high probability of cutting the quick. BTW, I never cut their quick, so I don't why they squirm so much.
Now whenever I need to trim their nails, I clear out a section on my desk and lay down some towels. Since they like to nap while I'm on the computer, they will usually climb up and nap on the towel, instead of napping behind the monitor or by the door. Once asleep, nail trimming becomes a breeze!
