If your pond is at least 3 feet deep(in southwestern ontario), you can leave the koi in the pond over winter and they should survive just fine. You may want to put a small pump or heater in(ckeck with a fish store) to keep the pond from completely freezing up as the fish will need a hole in the ice to breathe.
