I Have A Secret

Back in October, my sweet old girl Echo passed away. She was 15 years old and I am still heartbroken over the loss of her. I've been really missing not just my dear old friend, but just having a dog in the house. It feels so empty not having the clickety clack of paws in the kitchen, no one to greet me at the door when I come home, well, you know how it is. So I've been spending a lot of time down at our local shelter, just hanging out with the dogs, petting the cats and bunnies and the guinea pigs they have there. I was talking to the lady who runs the place and mentioned that I was ready to adopt and is there a wait list for if any puppies come in. Well, it turns out that a little dog that she is boarding at her house just gave birth to a litter on Christmas day, so she is going to send me pictures and I can choose one! It's a secret because I want to surprise my family and they won't be ready till February anyway. But I just wanted to tell someone :)

That's awesome news, Silverwind! I'm so happy for you! :2huggers: Please keep us posted (and share pics! :D )

That is a great secret and I promise not to tell your family ! :) I also can't wait to see photos of your new :dog: . Do you know what breed the parents are?

Silverwind December 28th, 2016 11:59 PM

I'm excited too. Still waiting for pics, but I'll share as soon as I get them :) The mother is a pug mix, father is unknown. I think this is meant to be because my husband has always wanted a pug. It's hard not saying anything!

What a lovely secret to have!
Wishing you lots of happiness and fun when you bring your secret puppy home :cloud9:

Longblades December 29th, 2016 09:40 AM

That's great. You can visit and help influence the wee things too, with some early training. Boy, if you continue to visit it will be even harder to keep quiet.

Barkingdog December 29th, 2016 12:59 PM

I don't think I could keep a secret about new puppy very long! I would dying to tell my family .

hazelrunpack December 30th, 2016 12:25 PM

Me, too, Barkingdog! That would be pretty hard! I get too chatty when I get excited! :D

I'm still keeping the secret- except I told my husband because it felt wrong to keep it secret from him. I'm still waiting on pictures but later in the week I might ask if I can come and see the puppies and take a picture myself :)

hazelrunpack January 4th, 2017 01:00 PM

Yay! Is your husband pretty excited, too? I hope you get a chance to see the pups next week :fingerscr

Barkingdog February 9th, 2017 01:18 PM

She sure is adorable, what is her name and what bred is she? :lovestruck:

Lynne&Co. February 9th, 2017 03:54 PM

Adorable puppy! Congratulations :cloud9:

awww man sooo cute. way to go sw! :highfive:

Silverwind February 12th, 2017 01:41 PM

We still don't have a name for her yet  I am thinking maybe Smudge, or Lucy?? But I'm going to give the kids a chance to make suggestions when we get her home. Her mother is half pug half something else, and father is unknown. Name suggestions welcome ;)

hazelrunpack February 12th, 2017 03:56 PM

Smudge is a cute name! :D Can they estimate how big she might get to be?

Silverwind February 12th, 2017 09:57 PM

Not really, since they have no idea what breed(s) the father might have been. But she's a pug mix so I imagine small/med.

Here she is! We brought her home Wednesday. My kids adore her! My 14 year old cried when she saw her :cloud9: We have decided to name her Betsy- the name my 6 year old suggested. As I type this, Betsy is sleeping in my arms :lovestruck:

Longblades February 19th, 2017 09:10 AM

Oh! SO CUTE. Oh my, so cute. She'll never learn to walk properly, she'll be up in someone's arms being cuddled the whole time. Kidding. SO CUTE. :)

hazelrunpack February 19th, 2017 10:14 AM

Oh! Oh! Oh! So adorable!! :lovestruck: I like the name--it suits her!

Has Lily forgiven you, yet? :D

Silverwind February 19th, 2017 05:18 PM

I think you may be right Longblades...She is sweet and almost always in someones arms! Lily loves me again, she's been snuggly, and hasn't eaten the baby so...in other news, I think another heat is coming already!

Reg February 19th, 2017 10:42 PM

Hello Silverwind:

What a beautiful little puppy. Looks like you came up with a real gem. I'm glad the young people had the honour of naming her Betsy.

Also glad to hear that Lily has had a change of heart and you're in her good books again. :thumbs up :goodvibes:

A little surprised that you think she may be coming into heat again so soon.

raemei February 20th, 2017 09:16 PM

Aww congrats she's adorable!

Yes it was definitely heat. She;s still in it. At the vet today, they told me that some cats can go as little as 24 hrs between heats! She is set to be spayed on Friday.
