Trim hair on paws or not?
 

Hi all, I've never had a dog (well except for a poodle when I was young) that had really long hair between her pads on her paws. Jessie has really long hair on all 4 paws.

Is this something to trim or leave alone? Just wanted to ask in case someone knew a reason not to.

Every time we take our schnauzer to be groomed they always trim the hair in between the pads really short. So I wouldn't see a problem with trimming it up! I think it only bothers him when it's long because things get stuck in it. Good luck!

We trim the hair on the Pack's paws to keep mud out of the house. If I don't trim it, they tend to get matts in between the toes, too. I also keep the hair between the pads short--I don't usually trim in between the pads, but I trim the hair off beyond the pad, so that no more than a quarter inch shows on the bottom of the foot.

So when her feet get all prettied up, do we get some updated pictures of the lovely Jessie? :fingerscr :D

I get the paw pad hair trimmed in the winter. Otherwise it holds snow, which turns to painful ice balls between his pads.

I'm always trimming the bottom of the pads and trimming stragglers that pop up in between the toes. I don't spread a part their toes and cut in between them, I just pull up the long hairs that grow in between and tidy them up.

I bought a great pair of grooming shears from Wal-mart and they have worked wonders. :thumbs up

It wears off nice and short in summer but if I don't trim in winter it balls up with ice and snow and it's slippery on our hardwood floors.

[B]Men's nose hair trimmers[/B] are great for getting between the toes. Much safer to use too, if you have fidgety dog and trying to cut with scissors.

My Vet laughed when I told him. He says he thinks some ladies need to use nose hair clippers too. Then he shut up really quickly. Guess who ran to check herself in the mirror immediately on returning home?

I trim Tucker's in the winter because when running up north he gets the ice balls and will lay down in the snow and wait for you to pull them out for him:D

I trim the longhaird doxies feet...they get better grip on the floor. especially bowlegged , nerve damaged (hit by car ) ruby. She cant plant her feet real well..so the trimming helps her have traction.
Some people do it for "look" . I do it for function. As a long haired doxie with feet trimmed short, actually LOOKS really stupid. But..oh well. They're happy..and they can run faster, and I"m not picking grass burs outtat thier feet fur as much. Happy Trimming:)

Oh yes paw trims are must in my world...Chum has very long hair between his toes ...if I don't trim it all kinds of things get caught in there , depending on the season it can be snowballs and ice balls in the winter, sticky poplar tree guck in the spring, burs and spear grass in the summer and mud all year long.:laughing::crazy::pawprint:
