Activities and stimulation for dog who just went blind

We are still going through significant challenges with Buddy and still have ups and down days, getting up numerous times during the night, lethargy etc and yes, the tears are still flowing :sorry: for being such a wuss.

In the last couple of days, we noticed that Buddy responds to outside noise stimulus. In the country, our mail is delivered by car and the driver sometimes takes his dog (constant yapper) and both our dogs hate that car and always get animated :)when the mailman comes around. This morning, Buddy reacted when Cleo started barking at the car.

Also, both Buddy and Cleo are little social butterflies and loved to say hello to our neighbours. When Buddy hears a familiar voice (other than ours), he responds and want to walk faster to reach that voice.

Even though he is still learning to navigate around the house, we would like to add some play/stimulation (nothing exhausting) because his glucose are still very high.

Any suggestions?

Buddingartist, BenMax mentioned this group in another thread yesterday, maybe they could give you some good advice:

Tks for the link Chris.

I put a bell on Cleo and he really helped Buddy find a direction and trying to catch up with his sister.

Hi

Could find a ball that makes noise so u could roll it back and forth to him? A ball with a bell inside it?

I had a whacky ball years ago that I bought in the children's dept. It was the size of a soccer ball (but there was a smaller version) and made odd, quacky, "farm animal sounds" and rolled in non-predictable directions all the while making these sounds. It was green and teal. I'm sure I saw them the last time I was in The Bay.

Good idea about looking in the children's department.

I tell you the little bell around Cleo's neck does wonder for Buddy during our walk.

Dogs love to use their noses, too. If you can find a scrumptious treat that wouldn't screw up his blood glucose levels (dried liver, maybe?), you might want to lay a scent trail with it and let him sniff it out.

Fat chance on that one since Cleo would probably get to it faster, unless I lock her up in another room...... then our <princess< would really be miffed.

 Okay, scratch that idea! :D
