introducing myself and new puppy
We just got a 14 week old Great Dane. I understand the Hoc issues etc with this breed and know that growth has to be slow...thus protein and fat are to be kept on the lower side, not more than 23% protein. The breeder is a faithful user of Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul. Until I come up with another food (if at all) I am feeding him the same. I have spent 2 days at the stores and have considered..Blue Buffalo, Canidae, Eagle Pack and possibly keeping the Chicken Soup food....If anyone has other ideas or suggestions I am open to all advice you can give me.
Funny how I have raised 5 kids with less indecision Thanks |
Hi and welcome to you and your new puppy!
Sounds like you are doing some research on the best food for your pup! Lots of good advice on this board. Hope to see some pictures of your new addition...does he/she have a name yet? Yes....sometimes raising skin kids is easier than these precious furbabies! :goodvibes: |
His name is Cooper and I will try to post a picture soon. Yes I had been reading all the info and so many seem so similar to others especially the ones I am considering or shall I say feeling like they are quality foods...so I am hoping someone will ease my mind with either leading me to one or two of the better ones or confirming that they are all about equal in quality and good to use.

Busterboo is SOOOOO correct---pictures are a MUST! My daughter is so in love with Great Dane's and would like to become a parent to one.
If and when her time comes, I'll have to look up your thread and give her solid advice. Welcome to the board. |
Can hardly wait to see some pics, I've got a mini-daxie; a total opposite to a Great Dane. It would be hillarious :laughing:to see them together. Sorry I can't make any nutrition recommendation but you've done the research and its basically a matter of choice. Based on recommendations I've received on this forum, I choose to go with Orijen puppy food. I don't know if it has the balance you need for your GD. Good luck with the puppy training and look forward to seeing some pictures.

Love Danes :lovestruck: There are several in the woods where we walk. Please post pics asap.
Here is a link that might help you sort through the ones you are considering. Never had a puppy not to mention a Large puppy so I can't give any personal advice. I am sure you will make the right choice for you and your "sixth" kid;) http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ |
