Artist to EAT a corgi...
This is wrong...
artist to eat corgi another article with him eating EDIT: the dog apparently died of natural causes, but still...can't you let it rest in peace!? |
That is awful.  I had to look because I really thought I read it wrong:frustrated:
|
Maybe I've lost my artist's perspective, but I don't see how this is art.
who would give their dog to this guy to eat? ugh! |
The dog died of natural causes at a corgi breeder and was prepared and cooked by others for McGowan.
Well it is gross but it wasn't cruel. I think stomping on a suffering fox is much worse and his stunt did bring it to my attention via this post.

This guy is pretty messed up. Other "performance art installations" he's had:
# Sitting in a bathtub full of baked beans with chips up his nose and sausages around his head, claiming to be the defender of the full English breakfast # Cooking and eating a fox to highlight the plight of "crackheads". # Laying prone in New Street, Birmingham (a pedestrianised area) dressed as a solider. # Crawling the streets of Manhattan dressed up as and wearing a mask of US President George W. Bush and a "Kick My Ass" sign on his back # rolling a peanut on the ground with his nose from London's Goldsmiths College to 10 Downing Street #Somersault 70 miles # in July 2005 for his installation "The Running Tap", where he left the water running in the backroom kitchen of a London gallery to protest leakage problems with London's private water company, Thames Water. His installation wasted 9,200 gallons of water a day, and if left on for a full year as he intended, would have wasted 3.9 million gallons of water and cost $23,320. It was turned off several times by protesters of the protest. McGowan turned the tap off for good on 29 July following threats of legal action from the water company. #accused of 'keying' cars in a number of cities, a practice involving the scratching of cars using a key. This attracted the attention of the police, though McGowan defended his actions in a television interview on Channel 4 News by stating that his actions had become "compulsive-obsessive" and that "I [McGowan] suppose it's like a social experiment testing why people do it." #ate a swan in a protest against the monarchy, the rich and the upper classes, outside the Guy Hilton Gallery in East London. #On December 28th 2003 Mark set out from Peckham in South East London and attempted to sail 400 miles to Glasgow in Scotland in a shopping trolley, along the way he collected gifts from english people intending to hand them out to the people of Scotland as a reconciliation for the William Wallace thing. He failed in his attempt after 17 days and 65 miles, due to bad weather conditions and poor equipment. #Mark nailed his feet to the gallery wall protesting against leaves. #Mark walked backwards for 11miles with a 27lb turkey on top of his head shouting at fat people along the way through a homemade loud hailer, it was a piece about the obesity pandemic. etc etc You can even see the video of him eating the corgi on his website. |
yay, I'm eating spaghetti, maybe I can get an artist grant! *sarcasm*

Although I think this man is a bit whacko,it's way past time the "royal"family stops the horrific tradition of the fox-hunt,it's beyond my comprehension how anyone can enjoy persuing a little animal until he collapses, only to be attacked by dogs and humans.
Shame on the"royal"family and their outdated traditions:evil: |

Shame on the"royal"family and their outdated traditions:evil:
I second that Chico2 :thumbs up |
I totally agree that they are beyond outdated traditions, but the delivery could have been different, because in my eyes, they just don't connect enough.
|
I find most performance artists are self-rightous jackasses who do dreck in the name of art. My favourite are the supporters who go, "You just don't get it!" Oh I get it...you're a tool!
(Anyone remember the guy who urinated on the cross, or the guy who put his poo on a pedastal?? Man, was I tired of that guy's crap...) |
Me thinks a midwife dropped this artist on his head when he was born.
|
He does not seem altogether as they say but he did as Chico said make a point about the fox hunt - which I thought was supposed to be banned now. (Or is the Royal Family exempt????) It is most bizarre however!!!
|
What an assinine stunt. Without the media attention and explanation of his "rationale" there would be no connection between eating a Corgi and Prince Phillip's role in fox hunting/ the monarchy's support of the RSPCA.
Causing an indignity to the body of a deceased animal to protest cruelty to another is exploitation not art. |
