EKC.... who wants to join

After very little debate and thought I have decided to start my very own kennel club. Who's in???

Heres the guidelines...

1-Only shelter pets may be registered, with proof of adoption papers. ( 2 of mine are already out of my club)

2-Purebred, hybrid ( or designer, or mutt, or mixed breed whatever you wish to call your dog) all equals in my kennel club. No discrimination

3- No breed listings, only characteristic listings. (Ie, couch potatoe dogs in a class of their own, agility nuts, crazy bananas and so on... not always related to food though)

4- Only data base for them will be health checks, no clearances or anything as all dogs must be speutered PRIOR to recieving their authentic EKC papers)

5- General competitions will be held randomly, with no competing for points, because if you are EKC registered you're already a champ... so put that in front of your dogs name immediately.

The EKC will also be hoping to extend to registering cats in the near future....

Heres the kicker, to become a full fledged member, each owner MUST make a minimum $20 donation per year to a rescue in their area!

Who's in????

:D

luckypenny May 9th, 2007 05:33 PM

Grand idea! Can we all meet at your home??? :D

Byrd May 9th, 2007 05:55 PM

Rule #1 disqualifies me.

Prin May 9th, 2007 05:59 PM

In lieu of a donation, can I foster? :D Otherwise, I fit.:D :highfive:

Yey rescues! :highfive:

SableCollie May 9th, 2007 06:19 PM

Oh yay, Sable qualifies! :D I still have all her adoption papers.
In lieu of a donation, can I foster?
Yeah does time spent working for rescue/shelters count as a donation? If so, I am so there!

Now are these just regular champions, or Super Fantabulous Wonderfic Champions? (SFWCh)

After one consecutive year WITHOUT fostering or volunteering with any rescues you then have to donate. ;)

Oh the champion lists are as follows.
Champion ( for the newbies)
Grand Champion (after a years worth of membership)
Ultimate Champion (3-4 years of membership)
Super Fantabulous Wonderific Champion ( 5 + years of membership)

There will also be the following titles which can be earned through various photo challenges and/or stories.
CPC- Couch potatoe Champion
LDC- Lazy Days Champion
FFC-Funny faces Champion
OC- Outdoors champion
MDPC- Most destruction to family items picture Champion
SEC- Saddest expression Champion

Feel free to add on to the list, or we could just wing it as we go!

Once a dog has earned 50 points in extra titles, they will be crowned ( insert something special here, its still up in the air.)

I am going to have to modify Rule #1 somehow, but in a way that BYBers or Millers wont be after my Kennel Papers:rolleyes:

Prin May 9th, 2007 06:35 PM

Is it retroactive? Like if we're coming up on Jemma's 5th anniversary with us, do I get my 5th year EKC standing or is it as of the joining date?:D

What about:
VBC - vet bills champion
HGC - harmless growling champion (Jemma wins that one hands down!)
UMMC - Unidentifiable mystery mix champion (for the ones we can never figure out)...

SableCollie May 9th, 2007 06:44 PM
After one consecutive year WITHOUT fostering or volunteering with any rescues you then have to donate.
Is it okay if the shelter pays me? I mean, I have to make a living somehow! they pay me below the poverty level, so it's still a sacrifice! :D

So are you gonna make up special EKC registration papers that we can fill out with our doggies' names?

Prin May 9th, 2007 06:46 PM

IMO, anybody who spends more than 20 minutes a week in a shelter is in.:D (That's hard to do :o) But then again, it's not my club.

SableCollie May 9th, 2007 06:48 PM

30-40 hours a week! Woohoo! :D

Prin May 9th, 2007 06:49 PM

But this isn't the PKC, it's the EKC. The rules are subject to E approval.:D

erykah1310 May 9th, 2007 06:51 PM

Dont worry pets.ca members, you're all in!:D

I am going to make some "papers" up, but regardless on how you got your dog ( just for the members as of today) they must be speutered ( Im sorry to some of you) but the breeder purebreds all have some form of registration.

However, perhaps we can make them "honarary members" ( just for the members remember ;) )

Byrd May 9th, 2007 07:17 PM

Well, Willow's purebred, but she has no CKC papers. She's not adopted from a shelter, but she was 'rescued', she is from a BYB. Does that qualify???

Oh, and she's spayed! :D

erykah1310 May 9th, 2007 07:26 PM

Basicly, no litters will be registered ( unless they are in rescue)
Absolutely no litter from EKC registered parents ( or they are in breach of their registration)

Oooh I should have put more thought into this before asking who was in

For now, im going to spend a few days making up some "papers" for the pets.ca shoe ins!

( I dont know what are typically on papers of any kind so this should be interesting:laughing: )

breeze May 9th, 2007 07:41 PM

how can members of pets.ca be in when some of the dogs (like mine) are not recues??

or maybe i am not understanding this

Hunter's_owner May 9th, 2007 07:44 PM

Yeah I don't know if Hunter and Cassie qualify either:shrug: Maybe not. We have CKC papers with Cassie and no papers, not even adoption papers with Hunter:eek: :o

Prin May 9th, 2007 08:17 PM

What about a 4 year clause then? Like if you've had your dog past its age of 4, you're in. :)

Hunter's_owner May 9th, 2007 08:20 PM

That one sounds like a good idea:highfive:

breeze May 9th, 2007 08:23 PM

then I guess i'm out Bree is only 9 months old, she is not regestered, and not resuced, but define recuse is there loop holes we can find lol lol
oo It doesn't matter.. never mind

Frenchy May 9th, 2007 08:32 PM

wooohoo ! I just saved $20.00 :thumbs up (I mean all my dogs qualifies , but I'm under the N/C close :D )

Skryker May 10th, 2007 09:46 AM

I miss on the adopted from a rescue front, but they're speutered, and kind of rescues, since she was technically a BYB and any pups she had left were going to a pet store  .

I would have to donate to a rescue since I'm not allowed:rolleyes: to foster or volunteer since I'm too much of a tenderheart. (Nevermind that the little kitten that was only with us for a weekend :rip: came in because my guy brought it in- I'm the big softie, right? ;) ).

I think it's a great idea, erykah!

~michelle~ May 10th, 2007 11:31 AM

hehe my three boys are in their neutered, rescued, cute....

Saradog May 10th, 2007 12:10 PM

Heaven knows, after looking at pics of cats at a high-kill shelter and knowing that I can't rescue them all, I needed the smile this put on my face. I'm in with my three cats, and should enroll the foster dog :-).

Any posthumous enrolment? I lost my two dogs this year, they were both from shelters.

Thanks, E, great idea!!

erykah1310 May 10th, 2007 04:56 PM

You know... after a bit more thought, i think im going to run with this idea. :D

Im going to put a bit more work into it, maybe, just maybe this "brain fart" of mine could actually in turn benifit some shelters

Im heading off to the drawing board this weekend and im going to get some good guidelines and rules kicking and then, once I have a bit more of a solid starting block... I'll make a website:rolleyes: (<-- Gears just a grinding)

I am also going to encorportate this for cats, they are equally deserving of this.

Lets get some brain storming happening....

Oh, and I also want to change the name, something that "screams" this is for rescues Kennel club!

Saradog May 10th, 2007 05:02 PM

I think you're definitely right, that this is a great idea! If you require proof of the donation or proof of the fostering before membership, it sure would help shelters and rescues.
New Name....Unknown Heritage Kennel Club, the UHKC? Or is that too close to the UKC?
The Mutts Kennel Club, MKC?
In my house, with the dog and kittens tearing around, it could be the Mutts and Monsters Kennel Club, the MMKC *LOL*.

JanM May 10th, 2007 05:37 PM

Well, my three are shoe-ins for sure! Bobby is a "purebred" Golden - he is neutered and is not registered. Amber is a purebred, registered Golden but I rescued them both! You see, they are both atypical Goldens and, say, if someone else got them and dumped them because they aren't typical of the breed, then I think I qualify for rescue!  Shadow is from the SPCA and is definitely a rescue...

Regardless, what an awesome idea you had!

Prin May 10th, 2007 11:54 PM

RKC? Rescue kennel club?

Why does it have to be "kennel"? Ok, that's a different subject.:D

Crestedcrazy May 11th, 2007 11:11 AM

Woo Hoo Ryder fits the bill!!!
He's a Pound puppy (sadly him, his mommy and 9 other littermates) we have adoption papers and his teabags have been removed :D
The SPCA he came from is on my yearly contribution list but I can up it $20.00 a year :thumbs up

Frenchy May 11th, 2007 11:13 AM
his teabags have been removed :D

Prin May 11th, 2007 11:37 AM

I definitely won't be having tea at your house....:D
