chico2 April 6th, 2004 09:16 PM

Iggette he looks wonderful,I see what you mean with those eyes, how could you resist?
He looks a little scrawny,but I am sure you'll fix that fast:D
Are you sure he does not have a bit of Great Dane in him:confused:

Iggette April 7th, 2004 06:16 AM

I wish I knew exactly what he had in him , I was told he was sheppard collie cross, so I thought border collie because of the white, people with more experience with pups said he was gonna be huge cause of the size of his paws:confused: Speaking of paws he has little spots on a few so my beau thinks he has a bit of hound in him cause his hair is so short (like a rottie or doberman) there has been a few opinions I wish there was a way to know for sure. Is there?.....

I'm not having any luck so far with the cats as you see how he keeps an eye out when they enter the room. He cornered one yesterday just inches away from me when my girlfriend was over I had his leash and pulled him away quick but he definitly got it in the nose I HEARD it and he bled a bit at the tip of his nose .........he still wants them hasn't detered him any:(

I tell you what he look suspiciously like my tazz only tazz is darker, here is a pic of his face but i will try and get one of him standng up. We are not sure what he is crossed with apart from that he is mainly doberman , he has a little white on his chest like your buddy. he is three now and still very tall and lean - he just dosnt seem to put any weight on no matter how much he eats - he's fast as anything aswell!!

I will try and put a full picture of him on for you.

Cute cute cute!

Hmm i would say some border Collie and shepard? What else i'm not sure.

Luba April 7th, 2004 10:20 AM

ShepXRottieXRough/Smooth Sable Collie
but I don't see any border collie uh uh!

Iggette April 7th, 2004 07:20 PM

Gee tazz does look like buddy

Luba ......looks like he is single Ursa gives him the brush off routine won't have anything to do with him but tolerates his presence!!!!

All the poor boy wants to do is play play play I had him outside today learning what a ball is he had great fun off his leash ......and ya oh boy is he fast and loves to show it........but I was a nervous wreck thinking he would dart the other way and keep going but he stuck close yesterday I had errands in town buddy came with me we've been doing the bonding thing he watches my every move now like Bandit used to.

When my daughter comes home is the only time to myself so I can let the cats know that I still love them they feel so left out they just hate Buddy and I cant say I blame them he hasn't showed much sign of loosing interest but he seems to be learning that I am very protective of them, and when he goes over to the baby gate (which he could jump in a nano second) all I have to do now is say "Buddy NO" and he comes. But he keeps going back

It will all take time but how much? I'm begining to wonder if ever:(

P.S. ShephardXRottieXsable collie....... never heard of sable collie what traits do they have?

SIGNED:.......Frustrated but hangin in there

chico2 April 7th, 2004 10:30 PM

Iggette,I am so sorry for your cats,I bet they wish he was gone:D
I hope they don't get too stressed out by this BIG change..
I've never had cats getting used to a new dog,I've had it the other way around and my dog was like Sadie and she readily accepted the cats.
I know you are not going to give up on Buddy and I wish you and your cats all the best,it's a good thing Ursa accepted him with no problem...

Igg..my cats aren't adjusting well to Brick being here either!! I get Tim to take him outside so I can spend some quality time with them, and they still sleep with us, without Brick. Its hard, it breaks my heart, but I try to spend as much time with them as I can!!! Give it time, they will all adjust!! It does get easier...trust me!! We're still in that fairly "new" stage, but I notice now that Brick is starting to test his limits...he isn't so timid anymore (garbage-eater!!) I almost feel sorry for Brick cuz he wants to play with the cats and they want NOTHING to do with him!! Poor guy!! But I think I finally found a playmate for him that doesn't hate him...my parents little shi-tzu-pug.....loves Brick!! It was soooooo cute!!!

Anyways, good luck and hang in there!!! Buddy is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!! He looks happy to be home finally!!! :D

P.S. When Brick is around the cats, I use "be gentle" and he tones down his sniffing and nibbling. It seems to really work!! Not sure if he understands "be gentle" but it works, so we'll go with it!!! It's all a learning process!!!

wAggie April 10th, 2004 11:28 AM

every single day when I got home, I took both cats and Chocolate onto the couch so they could get comfortable amongs each other with me starting the process...

we'd chill and I'd be petting them and talking softly, it was wonderful.

that would last anywhere btw ... 2-8 min (?) til someone jumped off... usually it was the least social cat, but at least they understood they could be within range of each other and no one would get attacked...

so Catt's idea of the "be gentle" sounds definitely do-able.

but plz, plz, plz, try ur best not to raise ur voice when u discipline them... that's bound to backfire!!

The fitting in time is definitely the most difficult. Transition and getting used to a home, other furballs and freedom is a huge change from the shelter and who knows what history he's got right!

I'd restrict him to some degree, even if it means keeping him on leads in the house for periods of time. Give him some down times, you sit on the sofa/chair while he lays at your feet. LAYS not sit, for intervals between 4 and 10 mins 2/3 times a day.

Reward him after with a small treat.

Transition...ahhhhh
Hey if all else fails bring him on over for a romp with Sadie LOL!:o :o
