Sneaky Potty goer
1 Attachment(s)
So I recently got a boston/rat terrier mix she's great and absolutely adorable but we're having trouble potty training her. The majority of the day we're out working and she goes potty on her wee-wee pad that is in a set location in the living room. :thumbs up
When we're home she goes potty all over the apartment...in the hallway, in the bathroom, other end of the living room...anywhere but her wee-wee pad. :yell: I'm assuming she does this for the attetion. We try our best to not to flip out when she goes somewhere else...but I think she likes the flurry of action that follows aka the clean up. Is that correct? Any suggestions on how to correct this? |
Your dog is a puppy. It's like having a baby, not a 5 year old child. You've given the dog far too much freedom. If you can't watch your dog closely it needs a crate, pen or to be leashed to you to catch it in the act. Can't catch the dog in the act you'll never fix the behaviour.

Yup MP.

I've never been really big on crate training. My other dog did really by us just taking her over to her wee wee pad a bunch of times and giving her lots of praise. I think I'll try leashing the little one. Thanks!:)

I am personally a huge fan of crate training but if you're not you can do what i did before i discovered the crate.
since you said that she's only doing this when you're home. Put her on the leash and tie the other end to your belt loop, that way if she decides to take a potty you can catch her in the act and take her to the puppy pad. When doing this method don't forget to take her to the pad every couple of hours, so that she can go if she needs to. Hope that helps!! |
