I heard on CBC radio this morning that Menu Foods is denying responsibility. They say that these pets that died must have eaten something outdoors. I went to their website and it said nothing like that. There was no mention of the denial. So I watched the news again and sure enough they repeated the same denial of responsibility.

Very frustrating when the media is reporting conflicting stories between their televised reports and their web content. And why is it that CBC keeps trying to tie the Royal Canin class action suit to this one. That recall has nothing to do with this one. It was an error in the amount of vitamin D3 that was put in only a few of their products that were not even available over the counter. Not to justify that recall, but what's the connection?

Is there? I've heard a lot of "Why", "What caused the recall" but when the answer heard is "Wheat Glutten", there's a lot of assumption. Bad batch, is usually what I've heard, but when we hear "quantities too high", I've not heard one person ask "How is that possible, and who could be responsible". Oh well if it's a computer error... :frustrated:

We all just assume they didn't inspect a batch to save a few bucks. We just kinda know how this could happen.:shrug:

It just makes it all scarier so we tune in more. :sad: Everybody is trying to gain or save throughout this and most of their "facts" are wrong. The newspaper yesterday said "Naturo" was one of the foods recalled. How pathetic is that? And it's an article from the Associated Press, so who knows how many newspapers ran it.:rolleyes:

I'm wondering, is there anything that people that weren't affected can do to help? My cats were very lucky and weren't eating contaminated food, but I'd very much like to help make sure Menu Foods and the other companies get sued out of existence.

I did hear of 2 class action lawsuits being launched today from Toronto and another in Chicago.

Does anyone know of any dogs or cats that are responding to treatment ?

OMG, pet connection has numbers of 1715 sick or dead pets and also 845 (500 cats + 345 dogs) deceased pets :sad: :sad: .

Subject: treatment of pet food contamination


Hey guys.
my friend the 4th year vet student whose cat nearly died from the affected pet food is doing great!!! His kidney values are normal as of yesterday. She is the one who tested the food she had been feeding him and found the traces of antifreeze. D***l was treated for antifreeze toxicity very aggressively and he is alive and normal now. When Mxxxxy called the california natural people they said that the foods she had bought were not affected because they came from the Kansas plant for Menu foods and not the NJ plant and that they don't have the wheat gluten in them. When she asked what they were talking about the woman she was on the phone with shut up very quickly and got off the phone just as fast. Msxxxxy will be calling the FDA tomorrow and the AVMA and report this to them. Ms***y also stated to me this evening that the other cases she knows of that are alive are the ones that have been treated for antifreeze toxicity. Please do crosspost. The FDA and AVMA are needing multiple different labs testing the foods and getting the same results prior to reporting anything and I feel that
we need to get the info out there even in this preliminary stage. So
please
let others know about this, I truely think it could save more lives and given that there are now reports in the thousands on the news tonight. I will rely further updates as I know them. Doc S

This gets worse all the time. :sad: So, is she saying that someone deliberately tainted the wheat gluten with antifreeze or California Natural food? :confused:

That does seem to be where her thinking is going...she is trying to cautious but still get the word out...it is too hard to even imagine, but if one animal could be helped by this info...getting the word out is worth it.

I'm still confused. :confused: California Natural doesn't use wheat gluten in their canned foods. The wheat gluten is only in the recalled canned foods. What food was your friend feeding that was contaminated with antifreeze?

I don't know..this was the info I received, when I hear back I'll ask....

I agree.. it is worth having some scepticism about...i was left with a " but what if it could be this though, and I didn't post?" kind of reaction.

i would just like everyone to take a moment (not that you havent already done so) and think about the thousand pets that have passed away because of this, and thank our lucky stars that we havent (hopefully) been affected by it.

Chico, I think somewhere on here it notes that the numbers of deaths and illness as a result of the tainted foods are self-reporting which may mean they may not be accurate.

I'm not sure if anyone else has posted this or if it should be in another thread, but here's the article from ABC with the release from the FDA which states that they found a type of rat poison in the recalled foods from a contaminated shipment from China. They're not sure if it's the only cause of the kidney issues, but at least it's a start!

I don't know if it has already been said but a pesticide called umm anoptrim or something was found to be on the wheat imported from china.. it's illegal in the us and highly dangerous.. I'll find a link to the story in a minute!
