Yes, dogs do get bothered by them. But those dogs at Mile 26 look like their coats are pretty thick. I haven't noticed Tegan being bothered by them yet this year, but there really aren't many around so far. *touch wood* :)

I imagine their faces and legs would get bitten. Apart from heartworm, what other things are carried by mosquitoes there? Up north in Oz there are some nasty things transferred by them but where I am the only two I can think of are heartworm for dogs and Ross River fever for humans.
I wonder how the dog trapping is going? I wish they'd taken photo's of where the dogs actually lived. |
I just noticed that girl who is wearing sandals  she obviously has never been in the bush. I hope her feet will be ok.
 you are right, hope she didn't go into the bush with those   |
L4H...if she did,,,she'd only do it once! OUCH!

Hey..my friend is packing to go up to Mile 26 and assist with the dogs. She is hoping to bring some back, but will need help with rescues taking dogs in for the time being to foster...or if indiviudals want to help, that don't have a rescue group. Anyone would be interested? Please let me know on here or message me. I will get you in contact with my friend, if you are interested in helping. Friend is a former Agent and Animal protection Officer. Thanks lot

Here is what I got off the website tonight...
Lydia wrote: We came out otday with a scrawny but friendly male yellow lab today. We didn't catch him until 8:30PM. Me and the volunteers from Kapuskasing and the SPCA crew had a crazy day going through the bush searching for what we thought was one dog left and chasing off numerous bears who were stealing form our traps and slowing down the progress. For now we have confirmed seeing 6 other dogs out there. Thank you for all of your help today guys we needed this crew to get through this day. Pam wrote: The OSPCA went up with a team today. They have also offered to help transport dogs...I will know more later what else they are able to help with... Mike wrote: The rescue of dogs from Mile 26 of the Island Falls Subdivision continues. Tonight (June 25th), NOAWS Volunteer and Maintenance of Way Staffer Phil takes a moment to pose with tonight's rescued Lab after delivering her and some free food from the OSPCA to a special Kennel located south of Cochrane. I don't know how I feel about the OSPCA showing up now that almost all the dogs are either dead or caught! I'm trying to feel happy that they finally showed up but as so pissed that all those dogs had to die and die a horrible death because it took them so long to show up! :( You can see on some of the dogs they have wounds from fighting off the other dogs or bears that were trying to kill them! Debbie |
It is almost dangerous for the dogs to be given to the SPCA, they will probably just euthanize them :(.
I hope this yellow lab heals quickly :goodvibes::goodvibes::goodvibes: |

L4H what is a email transfer?
Yes, I just got confirmation from my bank it has been accepted. :thumbs up. I did it through online banking. You will need their e-mail address and a code word by giving them a hint. I used: Name of golden with amputated leg mile26 :D. thought that was an easy answer for them to guess :p. They will receive an email stating there is a bank transfer waiting for them. They have to log onto their bank account and answer the question with the code word. |
L4H, Uh Oh,,,that sounds way to complicated for me. I think I'll do it the old fashion way...by cheque. Knowing me I'd forget the code word too. LOL

I don't own any cheques, so I don't have a choice but to send by e-mail. |
The tireless volunteers are going back into the bush tomorrow hoping to rescue more dogs.....6 more were sighted on the 25th, they hope to be able to rescue them......Apparently the OSPCA were supposed to assist, but they have been informed once again that "NO".
Their fundraising efforts are falling way short....they hope to raise $15,000, but right now stand at $2,800 :( |

Hi
I just checked the website, I found this I have a crew for Wednesday to go to Mile 26 but no one available for Friday. Please contact me if you are available for Friday as we will likely not be able to return for at least another week as there are no volunteers available next week. There are at least 6 identified dogs left. |
I was just on the facebook site and they have rescued 3 more dogs so far today :highfive:....these folks are tireless, I love them. It says they are going back on Friday if they can get enough people, then it will be another week as nobody is available next week......I believe they are also looking for foster homes.
|
Chris, Pam posted they got 4 dogs today, Wednesday!! They are up to 57 rescued dogs now.:D
|
T-Q,does anyone know how many dogs are really there,I would imagine it is difficult to know it's a big area.
These rescuers are amazing:grouphug: |
Chico, they aren't sure. They saw six on Monday I think it was, but Wednesday they only caught 4. The dogs hide in the bush and with so much scrub around it's hard to see unless they are on the 4 X 4 paths that Jean made so there may be more than 2 left.
That is not counting the dogs that had gone feral and were killing the smaller submissive dogs. Or at least I wouldn't think those ones have been caught, as the ones that have been caught are friendly and I would imagine the feral ones would not be. Debbie |

When the rescuers went into the bush on Wednesday, this is what was waiting for them.....Moe and Little Anne.....they took them back with them :cloud9:...You have to love those people.
From what I could make out there is 4 remaining that they know of....1 Rottie type, 2 black Labby types and 1 similar to the Rottie type. |
Awww Chris, that is just wonderful, they look so sweet:lovestruck:
I agree,these dedicated people are fantastic:dog: |
They do look sweet, Chris!
I hope they can round up the others in the next few days  |
Beautiful pups, :lovestruck: :cloud9:, I am so glad they are now safe. :highfive:
Sending :goodvibes::goodvibes::goodvibes: for the remaining few. |
Two black lab types were caught yesterday and one dog was caught on the weekend, but I'm not sure which day. I think it was the weekend, it's sort of hard to know as they don't always have the day listed when the person posted the information.
Debbie |
so possibly only one left?? do you know if the last 3 were friendly?
|
they don't know how many are left and yes all 3 of the dogs were friendly and tails wagging. *S*
|
that man should be held up as an example to all.....I mean look how well he did with these dogs...so far, no cross mean ones.....all friendly, no people aggression....they all look healthy enough.....may he rest in peace knowing his pack is being looked after
