I have an older cat (9.5 years) he recently started losing his hair in large clumps. Bald spots now cover is head, under his neck and on his body, also his skin is extremly dry and flakey. Although he is eating good, he also started losing weight. What could be the cause of this?

It could be a number of things....

I would suggest a vet visit for him. There they can take tests and find out for sure..... :)

Agree with mona. Could by thyroid, diabetes, etc. Vet time!

Took my cat (evil ) to the vet, they ran some blod work. At first they thought he had an over active thyroid, that test came back and his thyroid is fine, now they are checking his blood sugar level as well as his liver. If after all the test are ran and nothing is found, could this possibly be a virus of some sort???

Did they check for kidney failure? I have a 17 year old cat, and she underwent a battery of tests - most of them negative, but they did find some unusual blood work, not the usual ones for kidney failure - so they have put her on h/d diet and that seems to be working. Mine could have cancer, but she doesn't seem to be in pain, and I am not prepared to put her though everything they want to do to find out. Her coat is now coming back, after *clumping* all over the place. Is your cat drinking more than usual - if so ask the vet to look at her kidneys
