Have you ever wondered what’s in your dog’s food? The list of ingredients may offer some insight, but many times the fine print is overlooked.

For instance, when your dog’s food indicates ‘Turkey Meal’, it includes the following: “The ground clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of turkey or a combination thereof, exclusive of feathers, heads, feet and entrails.” (AAFCO Definition)

So, your dog’s meal may actually consist of ground up turkey bones mixed with other parts. Who knew!

For a thorough list of the AAFCO’s (The Association of American Feed Control Officials) guidelines and definitions for animal feed, including pet food see this link in our pet forum.
