Limber Tail Syndrome (AKA cold tail, dead tail, broken wag) is quite common among some breeds of hunting dogs, such as Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Pointers, Setters, and Beagles. It is a condition in which the tail becomes limp and sometimes painful after exertion, particularly during inclement weather, swimming, or in an under-conditioned dog. It is a condition well-known to hunting dog owners and trainers, but not commonly seen by veterinarians. The syndrome is characterized by the swelling of the muscles at the base of the tail (the wagging muscles, which are also used heavily during swimming when the tail may serve as a rudder). These muscles are bound to the tail by a tight ring of connective tissue. As the muscles swell and expand, the connective tissue begins to serve as a tourniquet – cutting off normal blood flow.
When increased pressure within a confined space results in reduced blood flow, it is known as a ‘compartment syndrome’.

As you know my name is Jazz, I was born at Kilreen farm, Manotic, Ont., Canada on Feb 2 2004
I just love to sleep on the bed with my mom. When I am at home during the day, I become a couch potatoe.
I go to the stable and play with my buddy Nikki, he is a hound mix, running with my mom when she rides her horse, ( ziggy ).
I love to have my egg and yogart in the morning. It makes my ulser feel better.
I do not have a favorite toy because I do not play with them. I would rather spend time with my mom. Somedays, I am so tired after we have had our treks during the day. All I want to do is veg on the couch.
I am 13 years old now and I have spent my years protecting and loving my mom and her family.
July 10, 2007, My mom and I went to the airport and picked up my sister cat, Zoe,( can be seen in the cat section) who was flown out from Victoria, B.C. I really missed her. I licked her face and cleaned her ears as soon as she got out of the kennel.. I am so glad she is home with me and mom.
A word from my mom.
Mom here: Jazz has been a joy to raise and care for. I got him for agility and fly ball, but, and I mean but, he was not having a thing to do with stuff like that. He thinks that is below him. His job and loving it is to love me, be my companion, and my protector, My family, neighbors. and I just love him to death.
