Kitten Development Stages – Pet Tip 249

When we bring a kitten home for the first time to adopt it as a pet, it should be between nine and twelve weeks old. This is so the kitten has a chance to spend time with its mother and so that the kitten becomes socialized with its littermates and learns proper kitten behaviour. But what happens before the kitten comes home? This article will outline some of the important milestones in kittenhood in an effort to familiarize you with some of the stages of kitten development.

Kittens are born blind and deaf and they remain that way for around the first fourteen days of their lives. They use their sense of smell to find their way toward their mothers for nourishment and heat. They really need to stay close to their mothers for these first few weeks as they are unable to regulate their own body temperature. The umbilical cord typically falls off after the first few days of life.

Likes: I love to snuggle and play with my little sister. We always run around the house playing tag. I love to play with little mice covered in cat nip. The first time I played with one, I started hissing and growling at my sister when she got near it. I was obsessed.
Dislikes: I dislike ruogh housing and going on walks on my leash. Other than that I am really mellow and quiet. I am very optomistic.
Favorite Toy: I love to play with my mouse and my dingling ball. They are so much fun!
Favorite Spot to Sleep: On top of the coffee table, in my owner's arms or her stomach, on the swinging bench outside, and the new bed in the guest room.
Most Scary Moment: When I got ran over bya car and was bleeding from the nose and had to get rushed to the vet. I still have owies on my chin, mouth, paws, and head. When I got home I chewed off my bandage and bit my I.V. It started gushing blood. I was ok later though. I have been having to eat soft food because my tooth is broken.
Cherished Memory: When my baby sister Stella arrived, even if she never stops meowing and complaining.
