Kitten Development Stages – Pet Tip 249

When we bring a kitten home for the first time to adopt it as a pet, it should be between nine and twelve weeks old. This is so the kitten has a chance to spend time with its mother and so that the kitten becomes socialized with its littermates and learns proper kitten behaviour. But what happens before the kitten comes home? This article will outline some of the important milestones in kittenhood in an effort to familiarize you with some of the stages of kitten development.

Kittens are born blind and deaf and they remain that way for around the first fourteen days of their lives. They use their sense of smell to find their way toward their mothers for nourishment and heat. They really need to stay close to their mothers for these first few weeks as they are unable to regulate their own body temperature. The umbilical cord typically falls off after the first few days of life.

Hey there, my name is Logan! I like everything and everybody. I can't think of anything at all that I don't like, except for maybe when my sister Lucy pees on my things. I'll eat anything, play with anything, and let anybody pet me. Sometimes my parents have people come over, and that pleases me very very much. I may whine about Lucy, but I sure have lots of fun with her and our cousin Phoenix. We chase each other all over the place and gossip about our older sister, Kali (who is a little bit of a snob). My favourite thing I'd have to say is warmth. I like sleeping in this nice corner under the radiator, or on my Daddy's computer. I don't think Daddy likes this very much, but Mommy doesn't seem to have a problem with it. I like to cuddle at night with Mommy and Daddy, especially when Lucy hasn't peed on the bed. I really really really like my mouseys! I like to toss them around and growl at them. It gets on my nerves when they go under the dresser or under the stove or in the coat closet.. Parents win big points for retrieving them. That's really all I have to say. People are great! And so are things! And how bout that weather, eh? *big smile*
