The thought of parasites makes most pet owners shudder. Just in case we’ve forgotten what they are, a parasite is an organism that lives off another animal without benefit to that animal and without killing that animal. Parasites can be classified into external (ectoparasites) and internal (endoparasites). There are many different types of these critters, from roundworms to hookworms, tapeworms to fleas and ticks. Here is an overview of some of the drugs used to kill them, and a couple of pointers that you as a conscientious pet owner might want to be aware of.

Dexter is the second dog in our house. He's only 7 months old this spring (2005) but he is fitting in famously with Sadie and Simon. He's crossed with a Jack Russell so he sometimes mistakenly thinks he's a rottie. Apart from his tough exterior looms the softness of a teddy bear. He's wormed his way into all our hearts. : Updated in 2010 - Dexter is the true "boy" in the house. He is fearless and brave. He will attack if his buttons are pushed but he always gives warnings first. On our walks with Sadie at the off leash dog park, he is her protector since she is timid of other dogs. He has a big heart for us at home and anyone who would like a cuddle. I hope he has many more years as our treasured boy.
