Green Thumb Mold

Well it really has happened. Another 6 dozen seeds started on Wednesday, and every pellet is now covered in little white dots and poofy white fuzz and all connected together with a network of mold hairs. No idea where it came from, why it grew, or if there's any hope of saving the hopefuls, but it's taken over the tray like one big aggressive dust bunny.

sounds like your leaving it too damp and not enough air circulation?

What do you grow them in, SamIAm?Sometimes those moulds are in your seed raising or potting mix, but Melinda's right, having them too damp probably kick starts it. My problem has been the opposite, letting my seeds dry out, must go and spray them now actually.

Sam, were those pots in open air or under plastic covers. It does sound like too much humidity and/or watering. Bummer.

They are those little peat disks, add water and they grow into a pellet. They were brand new, same with the tray. The tap water... well... a possible culprit, I guess. I was going by the instructions, add 2.5L water, plant seeds, cover with lid until they germinate... it's not the first mold I've had, but 2-3 is not the same as all 72! Two of the 5 seed packs I used in it were just opened, trailing petunias and sweet peppers, could my seeds be contaminated?

So what now? Can I kill the mold if I uncover them, maybe put them right under the ceiling fan? I'd hate to have lost the trailers, the 12 seeds were the whole pack.
