Wednesday night, my cat threw up. He's a big cat, and its not unusual for him to vomit after he eats a lot really fast. But this vomit was white and frothy. I didnt think anything of it at first, until I got home from school Thursday and the food in his bowl hadnt been touched. Like I said, he's a big cat so he's a big eater. He hasn't eaten anything and he has been vomiting since Wednesday night, and I dont know what to do.
Last Friday I took him to the vet and they took a blood sample, which turned out fine. He didnt have a temperature and his heart rate was normal. They gave me hairball medicine and told me to change his food. He didnt eat any of the food and took his medicines until Sunday afternoon, when they started making him gag and puke. I took him back to the vet today (Monday) and they took a stool sample to check for worms, that test was negative. They cleaned his bowels and gave me some medicines for him (B12 for the appetite and some anti-nausea medicine). Neither of them have been working. So, does anyone know what to do, or what it could be? If these meds dont help soon then I have to have him spend the night in the hospital so they can run MORE tests and do some x-rays. Please help. |

Hi : (
This is worrysome. Is your cat an outdoor cat? Is it possible he ate something he shouldn't have and may have a bowel obstruction? This is the first thing that comes to mind because it has happened to MY cat and he needed surgery....my cat ate a bird when he was outside and it got stuck. I hope this is not the case for you...but your cat sounds sick. Even if it is something else he sounds sick. He really should be brought in...especially if he is not drinking, which is even more important than not eating. Good luck, Hillary. |

Thanks, Hillary. The cat is eating and drinking now (a little), but he still hasnt been having any bowel movements.
He's an indoor cat, and honestly, I have the sneaking suspision that the problem is with his mouth. He chews kind of funny, he keeps turning his head like it hurts tpoo much to chew on one side. I told the vet this, she said that he has mild gingivitis, but nothing to be concerned about. I'm not so sure shes right. But he's a lot better, thanks for responding
