Reply from Michael Bryant

I sent a letter to Michael Bryant early last week regarding my opinions on the pit bull ban, and possible alternative solutions to the "problem", and i got this reply today (i know it is just a pre made letter that is sent out to everyone who sends an email, but its better than nothing )
He makes it seem like all he did was mention the "issue"

Thank you for your e-mail regarding a province-wide ban of pit bulls in

The McGuinty government is concerned about community safety, in particular
the danger pit bulls pose to people and their pets. Letters and media
reports about pit bull attacks have raised questions about whether the
province should consider banning these dogs.

Some legal protections are already in place. Municipalities already can ban
pit bulls under the Municipal Act. For example, the City of Kitchener has a
bylaw prohibiting residents from owning pit bulls.

In addition, a victim of a dog attack can sue the owner, and owners of dogs
that attack individuals may be prosecuted under the Dog Owners' Liability

The McGuinty government wants to know if further steps should be taken to
keep our communities safe. That's why I've asked my Ministry officials to
look into this issue, in particular whether a province-wide ban of pit bulls
should be put in place. As you know, I want to hear the views of Ontarians.
Please be assured that your views will be taken into consideration in our
review of this important matter.

Thank you for your input on this issue.

I got the same from letter form all 5 of my emails. My only hope is that he will at least read some of the emails from people opposing the ban.I hope he will take to time to hear our side as well.

Personally, I think that he has had his mind set on a ban from the beginning. He just doesn't strike me as an open-minded guy( based on his TV appearances).
They just want to see if they can implement it without losing voters.

I think Ottawa will wait to see if municipalities act first, because of the pressure Bryant created. If the municipalities don't, then Ottawa will act. Hopefully, the municipalities are doing the same and stalling, waiting for the federal government to act first. They are politicians, after all. They don't want to lose any voters that they dont need to. That's why I think it is very important that we also get as many emails as possible to our local Mayors and Mpps.

Even if the Ontario ban doesn't happen, some (or all) of the municipalities might ban pitties independantly.

Question Did anyone here e-mail Premier McGuinty?

I did e-mail him, & have yet to recieve a reply, but I think he's more worried at this point about his public support in general. If anyone cares to they can check the Ont. Gov web site & e-mail him. It might get a more open minded reading than the Att. Gen's office.

Too bad they weren't more serious about banning dangerous people. They are the real threat to public safety.
