My 18 year old cat has problems walking

My little guy is pretty well near the end, but I'm trying to make him as comfortable as possible for his last days. He has a number of medical problems, the most serious of which is Chronic Renal Failure. But we're dealing with his issues as well as we can.

The reason for my post is that just this morning I noticed that he is having problems walking now. In particular, the lower portion of his right front leg (okay, his foot) appears to be completely useless. He can move the rest of the leg but when he tries to walk his foot just folds under his leg and he can't put any pressure on it, so he just stops and sits there.

I've done a general Internet search but can find no mention of this type of issue. Most issues seem to involve arthritis (but his symptoms to not appear to be arthritic).

Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong?

It's very possible that he could have a thrombosis (clot). Having a vet check it wouldn't be a bad idea

My 19 yr old cat, about a month ago caught is claw in something and got it infected while trying to dislodge it.we didn't realize this until several days of paw up in the air -vet put him on antibiotics. That is getting better, meanwhile while at the vets,my cat threw some a clot in his hind legs and now is just dragging himself or walking on his knuckles..he is not eating and we are just trying to make him comfortable..I hope the claw info helps you. Same here

My 12yr old cat had the very same thing. It seemed to come on suddenly so I took him to the vet and he said it was some type of nerve damage. After a steroid shot and a couple days of oral steroids he was fine. Hope your kitty gets better. How lucky are you to have your lil boy for 18yrs +. Give him a hug for me too.
