Pet shop pet food cost

Hi,

I was curious to know if any of you knew the average profit that petshops make on a bag of food in % since I know dog food varies greatly in cost. Cheap as 20$ to 100$+ for 40lbs bags.

If anyone knows, I would love to know.

It's about 30-35% markup.. the store I work in can make anywhere from $5 to $30 a bag depending on size/brand.

when I get food for a rescue dog my pet store gives it to me at their cost, I get 35% off.

Don't forget from that "profit" they also pay wages and overhead (hydro, heat, franchise fees, rental for building, etc.).
