Hi,
My dog seems to have very poor eyesight. I know dogs don't see the same way we do, but I've had dogs in the past, and this one seems to have myopia or something like it. He sees movement quite well, but if I through something for him to fetch, if he doesn't see it land, he has a hard time finding it. ![]() How are eyesight problems diagnosed, and what can it be done about it (I've never seen a dog with glasses...) Thanks |

First did you take your dog to the vet for an eye examination?
What breed and age is your dog?

Dogs and cats, as predators, have a hard time seeing things that aren't moving. When something lands on the ground and your dog didn't see it land, then he has to use his nose to find it. Sight is only the third most important sense for predators, after hearing and smell.
But yes, if you think his vision is worse than other dogs' take him for a checkup.

My dog's a spaniel/retriever mix, 18 months old.
I think I'll take him to the vet (he's not so bad that his behaviour is affected), but I was just wondering if anyone knows if he does have myopia or some other eye dissorder what is usually the treatment. Is there a treatment? |
