How Do You Thank Someone...
For saving your life?
20 years ago I was in a very bad place in my life. I was 10 years old, suicidal and going through a lot of abuse from many areas of my life (church & school). My Mum took me out of public school, and stopped me going to the Crusader's for Christ youth program. She did not know about the abuse (sexual & mental) that was going on. I remained depressed and suicidal for many years, until I hit the age of 15. I discovered a tv show that really opened my eyes to what life could be like if it was worse and better. The creator, writer and star of the show saved my life. If it were not for that show, I would have done the worst deed possible, and ended my life. I am now friends with that person. I have no idea how to thank him for what his creative mind and devotion did for me. I know I need to tell him, he needs to know how much good he has done for people like me. So, I ask you all here, how do you thank someone for saving your life?

Very easily. You explain this followed by a good hug, sealed with a the words "thank you" and topped off with a smile.
Nothing else left to say as the message is loud and clear and will most certainly be appreciated I am sure. This is for you - Bless your heart Twin Tails.

TT,I am sorry you had to go through all this as a child, but very happy someone was there for you.
How do you thank someone, like BM says it's easy...I have a wonderful friend,at one time she was an alcoholic, married to an alcoholic wife-abuser... I won't go in to any details, but one time long ago this husband had murder on his mind,I was there and like most abusers faced with someone not afraid of him,me,he left with his tail between his legs.. This friend of mine is now a very happy non-drinker,divorced and enjoying her 3 grandchildren. She thank's me,by being happy, every time I see her,I am glad to have had a small part of her recovery, she's the best of friends

TT, I am sorry you had such rough times...I have been through some myself, so I hear you. You can do something along the lines of cooking the person a dinner and then over a nice meal and such explain why you're doing this, and explain how lucky you think you were... followed by a hug that BM suggested...
Thats just one idea, I know its much more touching when someones DOES something for you (vs buying stuff) the message gets across much clearer. I try to live by the rule of doing, not talking... be prepared to wwalk the walk in other words, because deeds have more impact on people than words... Anothering thing, maybe a donation in their honor to their favorite charity?? and tell them you have done so, and why..... I dunno, just an idea going through my mind. That one is really personal though, you gotta be sure they won't be offended. I would be honored, but I have heard people who have been offended. Good luck and ![]() ![]()

Thank you Chico and Jennie
Makes a lot of sense to me, and I think I know what I will do to thank him I find it difficult to discuss what his profession has done for me, as I try to distance his career from him as a person. This past year I have yet to tell him anything that he has done for me, and yet I feel it's a long time coming

TT, I have to agree with the others. Just tell him. You could say something like "I know we don't talk about your professional life, but I really need you to know this...." Hug him with a thank you and that's it. Done deal. I'm certain he would love to know that in some manner he touched someone's life so deeply and wonderfully as he did yours. Having a hand in helping someone through crisis and saving their life is something worth knowing about.
to you for having to have gone through such a rough childhood, but no doubt, in some way obviously it has shaped you into the wonderful, caring person that you are now. Big hugs to you TT, you are a strong soul.

I'm sorry for what you went through. People can be so cruel, yet some can be so caring.
I think your friend would really feel amazing if he knew what a positive impact his show made on someone. As someone who used to write fanfiction, having someone tell you something you creative changed their life is the most incredible feeling in the world.

If you're not confortable talking face-to-face, or if you think he might be unconfortable during such a conversation, write a letter.
A handwritten letter shows a sincere effort on your part and allows you to tell everything you need in well-thought words; perhaps better than trying to just blurt stuff out and be overcome by emotion in person. |

I am so glad you had someone in your life to help you go through those difficult times. Some of us didn't. It sounds like your friend may be the type who would love a simple sit down heart to heart. Sometimes that does more for someone than a formal thanks.

Remember that you also played a major role in your survival. There are what I call 'People of Passage' in our lives. We all have met someone that very innocently did or said something that for them was normal but for us made a huge impact in our lives. Some of those people have no idea how they enriched our way of being, and having the opportunity to share it with this person is a very joyous occasion. Best to you Twin Tails. Knowing you here, as distant as it may be, and chances are we will never met - it is wonderful to know you.

TT,when I found a missing cat for someone, the young man and his sister came by with a little present and a lot of thank you hugs, made me feel really good.
I does not take much courage to let someone know how grateful you are, even sending a card telling him about the great difference he made in your life, will brighten his day,I am certain.
