Dog leaking clear, liquid with no odor
Our beautiful Schatzie had a very wet bottom today. It was almost as if she had been sitting in a puddle. I found a few puddles on the tile of the kitchen, too. When she jumped up to go out, she sprayed me and a large area of tile. The liquid is clear and has no odor. She had been inside for over an hour at that time. She lives inside most of the time with our other dog and cat. She seems fine other than the "leak". And it seems to have gone away for now. I plan to call the vet in the am.
Background info: Schatzie is 9 years old. She was a stray puppy on the side of the road that a neighbor found and we adopted her. Our vet thinks she is a white shephard/lab mix. She has the physique of a white shephard, along with the pink nose. She has the coloring of a lab and the bald spots on the elbows that labs frequently have. She has been on thyroid medicine for over two years. She had giardia in the fall of 2002, and nearly died then. She looks very good now, and acts like a young dog. We are terribly worried about the possibility that this liquid could indicate a serious disease. We have never heard of this symptom. If anyone has experience with this, please let us know. Thanks! Hey Chris,
Welcome to the board. Please have her checked out with your vet, could be a simple uti or incontinance. Both are treatable. With a uti, (urinary tract infection) sometimes..not always, excessive water consumption & urination are prime signs..she will be uncomfortable and alway's want's to go outside. Excessive licking due to the burning sensation is another sign of a uti. At 9 years of age, incontinance could be the problem also. This is most common in older females but can happen in any age or gender. They "leak" and are often not even aware of doing so. I can relate to the giardia episode...we went through this also in 2002. Keep us posted and good luck!

Hi Chris, welcome to the board
I see no mention of whether or not she has been spayed. If she has not been spayed this could be something much more serious. Such as pyometra. Link http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=918 I agree with Karin, a vet visit is imperative. |

Hi Chris.
I am betting it's just urine, and she has a UTI. Urine doesn't always have a detectable odor, and it will be fairly clear if she's been drinking plenty. Blotting it with a white paper towel will most likely show it to be very pale yellowish, not perfectly clear. If you can get a urine sample, take it with you & Daisy to your vet....UTI's are common, and easy to diagnose & treat. If an older dog gets incontinent, one treatment is a short course of female hormones. Like Karin said, both UTIs and incontinence are not uncommon, especially in older female dogs. Let us know what the vet says please! I am sure it's nothing very serious.

Dog leaking clear, liquid with no odor
Thank you all for your replies and concern! Schatzie was spayed when she was about 4 months old. I did blot the liquid with paper towels and there was no trace of yellow at all, which made me nervous. I hope it doesn't mean that her liver is not working. Interestingly enough, she dried up and it hasn't happened since. We are heading to the vet in just a few minutes. I will let you all know what happens. Thanks again!!!

Dog leaking clear, liquid with no odor
Schatzie had lab work done at the vet on Monday. No blood in her urine, but a little "stuff". Her blood work looked ok. She is on amoxycillin. She continued to leak Mon - Wed. I didn't notice anything yesterday, so it looks like she had a urinary tract infection. Looks like this getting resolved. Hurray!!!

Glad it was something simple to treat!
If she starts getting repeated or chronic UTIs, cranberry capsules are really good at preventing them. Crabberry isn't a cure, but is an effective preventative.
