Bark control, collar or something else?

Hi,

We have 2 Pomeranians, one is 2 years old the other is 1 year old. The young one barks a lot, worst when the phone rings, as soon as we walk to the phone she would bark non stop! The older one would try join the barking and it's just too crazy. The same if someone opens the door, and I don't really want to bother our neighbours as they are really loud.

I've checked different types of collars, but I don't know which one to get to be effective. I obviously don't want to use it all the time, hopefully they'll learn quickly. Any suggestions?

First of all, maybe you should try to get to the root of the problem intead of just trying to cover it up?

Are your dogs getting enough physical and mental stimulation daily? Most dogs that bark excessivly do it out of boredum.

why not teach them the quiet command?
Sometimes even putting the bark on cue will cut out the behaviour unless you ask for it . (I knwo people who this has worked for, and its also worked for humping behaviours too )

I have a sheltie that barks at any noise outside; when I reprimand her, she quiets down, but as soon as I leave the room she starts again! And yes, she gets alot of exercise and stimulation so that is not the problem; she just loves to bark!!!

If you are going to get any type of anti-barking collar, please do not get the one that gives shocks, I find that a bit extreme. The one that sprays citronella works well!

No I won't want to shock my babies! The problem with my young dog is she stops but as soon as someone moves or do something, she barks. Like if we're all sitting in the family room, as soon as someone leaves the room, she barks. She stops as soon as someone says something, but she barks again as soon as someone walks around again. Basically she stops whenever we talk, then she starts barking again.

However, we have no control when phone rings, as soon as it rings, one goes crazy and the other follows. Usually we pick up the phone then run to the basement to answer the call, this is not good!

not too many quiet poms around *L* we use to raise them, pretty mouthy little things, the happier they are, the more they bark, if you have a pom that rarely barks, its the sign of a depressed/sad puppers, thats what my grams that owned the kennel always said. that being said, the citronella collar works wonders, sprays a delightful aroma each time they bark.
