It has never been clear to me why the scientific method necessitates a disdain for all things anthropomorphic; why an emotional distancing from other species is deemed the road leading to truth. I wonder whether the anti-anthropomorphic scientific worldview – a philosophy unique to modern culture – isn’t counterproductive to environmental healing because it impels our society to distance itself from nature and thus lends support for the exploitation of nature. If this troubling idea has merit, then we might conclude that the codified distancing practiced by science is what causes oil spills to occur in the first place.

This is something I've often wondered as well. Why is it so frightening to us, that other creatures might feel and consider and problem solve? It's very bizarre.

My belief as to why this happens is, it's easier to disregard, neglect, abuse and take advantage of something you make yourself believe doesn't have feelings or heaven forbid, is more intelligent than you.
