I have read that alcohol is toxic for cats (and dogs) but what about the alcohol-based natural remedies on the market today? are they safe to use? thanks. Notoes' mom and dad!

Depending on what the remedies are, you can sometimes find alcohol-free versions of them (like for instance this goldenseal product: http://www.honeycombs.com/Searchengi...ee-extract.htm).
If there is no alcohol-free version, one way to deal with it is to pour a dose of the one containing alcohol into a small dish, which is then placed on top of another dish of very hot water. Leave it for 10 minutes or so to let most of the alcohol evaporate off. Make sure it's cool enough before administering it to your pet.
