Hello from Alberta
Hi everyone! I have already posted on the site, I just now saw this thread!! LOL
We are a family of 3, recently upgraded to 4 with the acquisition of a Cockapoo Bischon cross named Patches. We live in SE Alberta where the weather has been less than desirable as of late! I have been browsing the boards, and have already found some great information! See you around the group! |

Hello, marjo!
So you finally decided on a new addition? Congratulations!! How is he doing? It's traditional to post some pics of your furbaby in your intro thread... Honest! It's a tradition, not just me craving pics. Well, okay, so some of it is just me craving pics, but lots of other people will want to see, too! Welcome to the board!

He's a cutie. He looks wise beyond his years.
Do you have to brush those curls?

He definately has the poodle hair! The other owner didn't have much information for us, so we are learning as we go. I am really not sure how often to brush/comb him...I did notice that he has a matted knot of hair on his ear already.

If he's matting already, you'll likely need to brush him pretty frequently--at least a couple times a week. If you can find a pet supply shop that does grooming, they'll probably be willing to give you advice on what sort of brush/comb to use and how to do it
We have setters here that I brush every day. It's a great bonding experience and very relaxing.

Hi to SE Alberta from Central Alberta. Yes, the weather sucks!!! We had 90km winds last night, lost my greenhouse (it's probably in Saskatchewan by now) and the dogs hate going outside.
Welcome to the forum. |

Marjo, I would try a comb first, and include your lil girl in it too, it would be a lot of fun and bonding for the two of them. Just be careful to not make this unpleasant, but a rather rewarding experience, use treats and be gentle..

Marjo, welcome, and I am from SE Alberta as well.
as a retired groomer, my suggestion to brushing your dog, would be to find a groomer have them teach you how to brush your dog properly. Also if you are planning on having him groomed that can be a bonding experience as well. Daily brushing will keep all mats out, and one doesn't have to spend hours doing it, if the mats get ahead of you, work each one out gently. Whatever you do, do not bath the dog to get the mats out, it just doesn't work. The mats must be out before bathing. Also don't use people or baby hair shampoo on your dog, the PH balance isn't right for them, and make sure the dog is well rinsed, so that there isn't any soap residue left on the skin to irritate it, and possibly cause other problems. Enjoy your new fur child take care binky |
