Dog Socialization - Did You Know?

Hi folks, learned some interesting news in obedience class last night that I thought I'd pass along...

Did you know that WalMart and Home Depot will allow you to bring your puppy between their doors for socialization? At least the ones in Barrie do. If you explain that you are training and socializing your dog, they will let you stand in their "vestibules". This will allow you to expose your dog to all sorts of people - young, old, in wheel chairs, with canes, dressed differently, etc... WalMart actually used to let you into the stores until they became a "super store" and got a freezer section. Home Depot has a restaurant, so they can't let you all the way in either. My instructor said she brings her dogs there all the time when she's administering the Canine Good Citizen tests.

Oh, and if you're actually in Barrie, Simcoe Building Supply lets you bring your dogs in the store - they even have a basket of cookies at the front register!

Thought you'd like to know!
