Dogs die in fire at puppy mill in Alberta

Heartbreaking tragedy. I can only hope that the surviving dogs are rescued from their life of misery and something good can come out of this. I won't say what I wish for their pimps.

What a horrible existance then die in such a way as to be trapped wtf they couldn't at least open their cages on their way out to give some at least a chance to get out too

I hope they will try and find homes for the ones' in the barn and not just hold onto them until they can get back into biz

Besides eventually ending up in hell I hope they had no insurance and those poor babies died quickly.

“From what I understood they estimate over 100 dogs were there,” said Audrey Becker, an employee with Medicine Hat SPCA. Becker said the number of dogs throws up red flags for the possibility of a puppy mill.

When I first heard about this on the news, my first thoughts were Puppy Mill, and then was sick at heart to hear of so many dieing. Thankfully, the ones rescued will receive better type of care.

Just goes to show our own back yard is just as dirty as those in Quebec and the states. I hope we "Alberta" don't turn a blind eye to what is going on and are willing and able to get the laws changed (if they need to be changed) to keep people from profiting from this. I am wondering if my 2 y/o iggy what was purchased as a gift from Petland in Medicine Hat could be from that "mill". I wonder what the small breeds are!!!!!

I would think with that many small dogs, there was many breeds and alot of 'designer breeding' going on. it is not very likely that those dogs where registered either...but you never know.
I sincerely hope that a few good things come out of this, first and foremost the surviving pups get the care and forever homes they need, but I also hope that if other puppy mills learn nothing else, they will at least put in sprinkler systems. it won't solve the puppy mill problem, but it might prevent another tragedy like this from happening again.
They don't want to lose all those profits from the dogs dying in a fire, and I am pretty sure insurance does not cover that lose.
