Question Barking When Noone is Home?

Ok, so a friend of mine lives in a duplex and is about to be evicted because of her dog. He barks while she is at work. Now if he barks when you are there, you can simply ask him to be silent and he is. He barely barks at anything as long as somebody is around. She asked me what to do and the only solution that I have for her is either moving somewhere else or getting someone to watch her dog. But then of course she would have to pay someone to do that and it wouldn't be financially logical for her to GO to work!

There has to be another solution, right? Help anyone?

It could be separation anxiety. It could be pure boredom.

Does she crate him? Has he ever been crated? Where is he kept during the day?

And, is she certain that no one is purposefully annoying or frightening the dog? I say this because there are some nasty neighbours out there who, because they dislike animals pull all sorts of stunts (banging on the walls, ratting doorknobs, scratching the floors) to make sure they live in a animal-free zone.

If it is separation anxiety, you can do the crate training but even before that you can just put the dog in another room of the house while you are there. I'd bet it would start barking same as if you were gone.

I have Bark Busters training so I know what to do (do a "BAHH" noise and/or throw pouches of chain at the door).

OR you could just ignore the dog and reward it as soon as it stops.
