Cat sneezing/hiccuping?
My little guy (Fitzy) has been doing this sneezy-type-hiccup thing lately. Like this morning we were in bed and he was kind of hiccuping or burping every 30 seconds. He was purring while it was happening, he'd kind of go "purrrrrr-vurp-purrr" so I know he's not in pain. And he's been a little bit mucus-y sounding. Things just sound wet in there.
As I type this he's walking around the living room, sniffing the carpet and doing that sneezing thing! I don't think he's sick, but I don't know if this is normal. It's odd. My husband pointed out that he sounds like he's trying to "clear his throat" sometimes, like someone would if you'd had too much dairy or something (which he doesn't eat). Our carpets were steam cleaned (no chemicals) a few months ago, and we vacuum twice a week, so I don't think he's breathing in anything weird. It's not a URI and everything else appears to be normal (well, normal for him). Has anyone else experienced this? |

Does he have any excretions coming from his nose or eyes. Kittens and cats can get colds. It is called rhino (abbreviation).
I would consult a vet to be certain. If this is rhino, the vet may have to prescribe medication but I really do feel it should be looked into. Good luck. |

Hi BenMax - he doesn't have any excretions. Sometimes he'll sneeze on me and then there's a little bit of clear kitty "snot" (I don't know what else you'd call it, it looks like a droplet of water), but otherwise there aren't any excretions. If I touch the tip of his nose it's faintly moist, but not wet or drippy.
Is rhino the same as an upper respiratory infection? ETA: He also snores, has for a while. Not sure if this is indicative of anything. Last edited by MissPurryJess; December 17th, 2009 at 05:38 PM. |
