homemade dog cookies

i make kiila homemade dog cookies and this year we are making up lil cello bags of cookies for her doggie friends. i normally make them dog bone shaped, but i thought for christmas i would make gingerbread men.
does anyone have any suggestions as to what i could decorate them with that would be dog friendly? i'd like to give them buttons, eyes, and a mouth - so something black for the eyes and buttons, and something red for the mouth.

icing in a piping bag would be easiest....but does anyone have a dog friendly icing recipie??

I would just make the eyes, mouth and buttons with the icing as well.

Cream Cheese Icing

1/2 cup cream cheese
1 Tbsp plain yogurt
1 Tbsp honey
1-2 Tbsp flour

Mix cream cheese, yogurt and honey in a bowl until smooth. Mix in flour a little at a time until you have a good consistency for spreading.

thanks winston!
maybe i havent had enough coffee yet this morning, but i cannot find any icing ones - atleast none that would harden enough to make icing eyes, mouth, and buttons on the gingerbread men dog cookies i will be making.
that is a great recipie book you posted though! i have about 100 dog cookie recipies - but i generally stick to 3 different kinds as staples and try a new one every time i make her cookies. there are a few new ones on your post - i will have to give those a try too

thats funny.....i JUST found that same page too! haha!
i think i will use royal icing for the gingerbread men features, and melted yogourt to dip the bone ones into - then stripe with the royal icing too!

they are gonna look soooo cute!! i will be sure to take a few pics (providing they look okay!)

thanks rainbow and winston for the replies!

i am making:
- apple pupcakes dipped in melted carob chips with paw prints on them
- peanut butter gingerbread men
- regular bone shaped cookies dipped in melted white choc wafers (red) with white stripes

i've made dog cookies for years, but have never decorated them before - hope they turn out okay!

thanks guys!!
i was kind of hoping they'd turn out better - the icing was a lil runny and have never really used a piping bag before....but overall, kiila approves

i do have to say that working with carob chips is not so fun...it doesnt melt nearly as well as regular chocolate chips. with other human treats i have made, you can just dip them in chocolate...but with the carob chips, i had to spread it on as it didnt melt to the same consistency.

but i will keep trying and make some holiday treats for every holiday...and some just for fun
