Immunity & Liver Support - help

Just wondered if anyone has heard of this company and this particular product. I am interested in it for Brownie.

http://www.natural-pet-info.org/immu...?ysmchn=GGL&ys

I have read a bit about the different ingredients. They all seem ok. Need to find out if it would be worthwhile to order it.
Thanks everyone.

I think there are better options for liver support. Can you ask your vet if they can get some Denamarin, Marin, or Denosyl? One problem with the PetAlive product is that it contains echinacea, which has no history of use in cats and therefore the side effects are also unknown. It may be fine, but it may not be. Milk thistle is a great liver booster, and dandelion can also be useful, but at least with the Nutramax products, you know what you're getting and the amounts are standardized. I have issues with some of the PetAlive/Native Remedies products (specifically their "GlucoBalance") and don't entirely trust them.

Thanks SCM. That's what I needed. I will ask although not holding out much hope. I am still waiting to hear the results of Meowzer's last urine test. Assuming no news is good news but still.........
Time to start the hunt again for another vet I think.
Is there any chance any of those may be found at a health store?

The products that scm listed are only available through your vet as far as I know. You can purchase milk thistle at the health food store (or most pharmacies) as well as SAM-e which are the main ingredients in Denosyl etc ....just make sure you buy a reputable brand.

Sending lots more good wishes for Brownie and Meowzer.

For an immune booster I'm using vet & homeopath recommended Vetri-DMG Liquid .5 ml twice a day can be given straight or mixed into the canned/raw food. If there is no holistic vets or speciality pet supply store that carries it in your area you can use the human strength/labelled Aangamik Liguid DMG 3 drops twice a day, can be found in health food stores.

The sites mention .5ml or 3 drops, respectively, once per day - that is based on a maintenance dose, because Duffy has a chronic condition she gets the active dose recommended by her vet

Thanks for the additional info rainbow and growler. I am so grateful I found this site a couple of years ago! I would be completely lost now trying to find answers for Brownie. to all of you for your help!
Now I have some research to do so I can go to the vet with questions of my own.

Thank you Chris my dear friend. I really appreciate that! I know the vet has L-Lysine because I bought it from her there. Hopefully she will have some of the other holistic things as well. And growler said the Aangamik Liquid could be found in health food stores. We have a great pharmacy not too far from here. Hopefully if the vet comes up empty I can find stuff there.

I've been looking around for Denamarin, Marin, or Denosyl. My vet told me that Denosyl has been discontinued and has never heard of the other two. It's not available at the drug stores I've checked. One in particular does carry a line of pet items for liver, kidney, etc support. I can't remember the name of the one she showed me for liver but I know it has milk thistle and dandelion in it. I wonder if that would be a good one to use? I will have to go back tomorrow and check it out.
The vet tech told me there is a good health food store not far from their office. I shall check it out possibly tomorrow as well to see if I can find any of the meds. The Aangamik DMG liquid the drug store told me she could order in for me but it wouldn't be a liquid. I suppose the pills would be ok but then would worry about overdosing?

On a good note.. Brownie has gained about two pounds! He is up to 11 pounds now. Not quite the weight he was at but he's getting there. I have moved both him and Meowzer into the house for now. Brownie wasn't eating the amount of food I was comfortable with when he was in the catuary. Here I can make sure he does. Last night he wolved down almost a whole chicken breast. Unfortunately it was cooked. But he ate his own food too. Meowzer I am just trying to keep away from the small amount of dry I put down as a filler for the catty cats. He tends to eat that and ignore the canned. He is not a happy kitty in here. Sure does live up to his name though.

14+ if you can't get what you're looking for either pm me or email me and i'll see what i can do, tell me what is health food store and what is vet. maybe i'd stand a better chance in the big city. I can either mail it to you or drop it off to Chico2's if she's coming out that way soon.

Thank you aslan. Chris offered the same thing. You gals are the bestest. I am going into St Cats tomorrow afternoon with hubby to hunt down a couple of places. Hopefully we can find something at one of them. If not I shall let you all know.

I did? Mmm, losing it. Will have to go back and reread again. I have L-lysine here. Got it about a month ago from the vet. It's being added to everyone's food now. The vet has a huge container of L-lysine for 92 bucks. I think I will end up getting it. It will last longer.

14+ it is the same stuff! Onster I am pretty sure your right...if you google it you will see. They do sell it in human form at the health food store. I think the amount to give was a 1/4 capsule 2 times a day.

Good news on the weight gain!

YAY for Brownie's weight gain ....hope it continues.

I don't see why you can't get SAM-e and Milk Thistle from the pharmacy and use that. Denamarin is SAM-e and Silybin and silybin is the active ingredient in milk thistle. I think it would be cheaper than buying a vet product.

I don't know what the dosage would be but I'm sure scm would and she can correct me if I'm wrong about using it.

Rainbow is right, you can use SAMe and milk thistle from a health food store. Instead of just straight milk thistle though, look for something called Silybin Phytosome, which is more bio-available.

http://www.naturalfactors.com/ca/en/...82/same-200-mg
http://www.silybin.com/

For dosage, start with about 1/10th of the recommended dose for humans. I'll see if I can find something more precise than that for you.

According to Nutramax Labs (makers of Denamarin, Denosyl, and Marin), a reasonable daily dose of SAMe is about 90mg per day, and about 9mg per day for silybin.

Where did your vet hear that Denosyl was being discontinued? I haven't found anything indicating that's the case and it's still profiled on the Nutramax website: http://www.nutramaxlabs.com/Vet/Products/Denosyl.aspx

Thanks SCM. I will make note of that. As for my vet I don't know where she heard. I phoned in and talked to the vet tech. She put me on hold because she recognized Denosyl when I asked if it was available from them. When she came back she told me the vet said it was discontinued.

Depends on what it is & what the ingredients are, for example there are some out there that are marketed as "kidney failure supplements" and have ingredients that are used for UTI's which are contra-indicated for kidney failure

You can give the Aangamik DMG in pill form as long as it is the 125mg dose. One 125mg tablet per day. The dose is the same for the Vetri-DMG tablets.

http://www.fslabs.com/vitamins-suppl...sublingual.php
http://www.vetriscience.com/vetri-dm...ets-liquid.php

Depends on how easy Brownie would be to pill, the liquid can be either syrgined directly or mixed into canned or raw food.

If your stuck you can order the Vetri-DMG online from cattyvet

Winston - I just meant I didn't think I had mentioned the word "viralyse" in and of itself.

Awww hon, I wish we could. Brownies sound delicious! But by afternoon I mean 4, 4:30. Hubby needs to get paint for a machine he is doing and we are going to do some Christmas shopping while we are out (hopefully). We definitely need to pick up a new tree. And we have to be back in time for my daughter's weekly duty call at 6:30.
We will get together before Christmas hopefully. And NO GIFTS! Neither of us can afford them.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Unfortunately Meowzer proved to be miserable in the house. He spent most of the night crying. No sleep for anyone. And the house kitties were very freaked. None of them would use the litter boxes which were in the kitchen. Same place where the crate is set up. I can't have that or I would have more health issues than I could deal with. So this morning when I went over to feed and clean the catty cats he went back over too. He was so happy to be back. When I left he was in his favourite place when it's cold. The window looking out. So now there will be no hard food even for treats until after his appt. After that it will be only for treats.

14+,if you cannot find what you are looking for,I can check one of our bigger health-food stores, but you have to tell me what you need.
You know,I can be at your house in 30 minutes if I find what you need.
You can call me,if I can help

So I found a great health food store in St. Kits. I phoned and spoke to one of the employees at great length this morning. Just came back from there with Milk Thistle. They didn't have Silybin Phytosome though. She is ordering Aangamik AMG and SAM-e for me. It will be in next week. I am starting Brownie on the Milk Thistle tonight.
She told me about a product which she had recommended to a customer a couple of years back. Same situation as me. Vet had told the woman to euthanize her cat. She got this product and used it. Cat is still going strong. No sign of liver issues. It's called LiverTone. Basically it's got the same stuff in it as the MT and SAM-e right? It is available at most Global pet stores she said.

14+ I am sending good wishes that the meds from the health food store will do the trick for Brownie!! That is good that he has gained weight and is still eating too! *doing the happy dance*

Thanks TQ! I'm hoping with all the good vibes he will feel them and start recouping faster. He sure isn't ready to give up yet!!
