irritating eye

my dog seems to have his right eye irritating him... its not really red, and i touched it and it seemed not to hurt him

about 1 month ago, i took a nap and when i woke up his eye was swollen very much so.. i got scared so i took him to the vet... they gave him benadryl ( is that how you spell it ?!) shots and i continued to give him the pills... and by the next day it was almost gone.. i think he had an allergic reation to something...

its not swollen now... but he does run is paw over his eye frequently.. and then he licks his paw!! i don't know if this is a matter for the vet.. if i could i would wanna save some money and not take him, because it doesn't seem serious... anyone have any ideas ?!

Could be a number of things from allergy, dry eye to a stye on the lid.

Is it red or bloodshot looking?

You can try to massage the tear ducts which are at the inner most part. Make sure your hands are clean and massage them. Perhaps they are plugged.

it has been about 5 days now... and the eye is still red and bugging him... i personally think its allergies.. cause i know a couple dogs who are suffering from allergies these coupld of days too!!

could it be from his gentle leader too ?!

his eye itself isn't red... but AROUND the red is!!

If it hasn't cleared up yet, you really need to get a vet involved, especially since it's bothering him.

maybe bc of the red eye, avoid the gentle lead. i know mine get the red rim, but it's also from the "intense" workout we do on our walks...

hehe, maybe a body harness or even a prong collar for temporary eye relief?
