Hey All,
I just got a new Border Collie puppy. Daisy is about 7 weeks old. The owners were feeding her puppy chow. I am looking to get her onto a better quality food before we get through this bag. I have a 7 year old mixed breed who eats Summit Canadian Chicken. I asked the folks at the pet store for a food recommendation and they said that because this Summit food is all life stages that it would be ok to have both dogs eating the same food now. Anyone with more knowledge than me know if this is true? Can I start feeding my puppy (who eats it out of her big sisters dish when we're not looking anyway ) this dog food without compromising growth rate or causing any other issue?Cheers! Mike |

Summit is certainly a good quality food and although I wouldn't feed an all-stages food to a puppy who was going to grow to be very large (i.e. a Dane), it is perfectly fine to use all-stages foods for most dogs. Before they changed their formula Canidae was one of the really good ones!
The only problem with Summit IMO is that it's VERY grain heavy. There are a lot of grains in the first five ingredients. Maybe consider making a switch to the Now! Grain-Free line, also by Petcurean.

I also thing that Summit has too many grains and, personally, I would switch to Acana Provincial (www.championpetfoods.com) which is grain free and also all life stages.
