What would be a good exchange for Hills C/D

for Mr. Nino? I'll use the huge bag up that Lorraine sent with him, and I've been slipping in a few Wellness crunchies when I fill up his bowl. I'd love to find a canned food that he will like. I may try the B.G. tuna with him. If I can keep Coco out of his bowl!!

Why was he "prescribed" the C/D? Has he had urinary tract issues? If so, I would work at eliminating all kibble from his life. Wet food is the best way to ensure bladder/kidney/urinary health, among many other benefits. Either way, dry food is a completely inappropriate food for all cats and was invented purely for human convenience. A good quality canned food, preferably with little or no grains and low in carbohydrates is one way to go, or if you're so inclined, a raw food diet would be the ultimate.

I don't recommend the canned BG for anything more than the occasional treat because it's not balanced. The other thing is that if Nino does have a history of UTI issues, you'll want to stay away from fish-based foods. Fish tends to be high in phosphorus, is an allergen for many cats, and has inflammatory properties that can exacerbate an irritated bladder/urinary tract. Plus, because of it's strong smell, it can be addicting. A fish-addicted cat is extremely challenging should you ever be need to feed a non-fishy food (such as if an allergy develops or they have renal insufficiency).

Here's some good info for you to check out: www.catinfo.org

Wellness canned, Nature's Variety Instinct canned are all good, personally I would stay away from anything with the main protein being tuna - my mum's cat is eating a tuna canned food & it is nearly impossible to find some other flavour of any brand of canned she will eat more than a mouthful or two of.

Thanks, I guess he had crystals 2 years ago? I've given him some Natural Balance Ultra Cat wet, he didn't try it. I may try him on a bit of cooked chicken to see if he'll eat it cooked. He likes the Wellness kibble. Coco and Bobee like it and they also get Natural Balance. Coco's a tuna junkie, not as bad as he used to be though. He only gets some of the Nat Bal tuna every couple of days. I only get the BG food once in a while as a treat.
