Why does my dog sing?

I just have to ask - I'm so curious as to why my dog sings! I've attached our YouTube video of it, so you can see what I'm talking about. (Plus, it's a pretty funny video, if I do say so).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYp7OpZzYVU

What makes my dog sing like this? He only sings along when my husband plays his guitar. Never sings along to the radio or any type of recorded music. But as soon as Hubby starts strumming, Leo starts singing like it's what he was born and bred to do! We're baffled by what inspires him. Anyone know why some dogs do this? What makes Leo do this? I've never known a dog to do this before.

I hope it's not because it hurts his hears

Thats is WAY too cute!!!
I had huskies growing up and they used to sing like that too!! We always told them to "Tell a Story" and they would howl and grumble just like your hound!!

I must say he must be signing a sad song LOL I think thats really neat, dont know why he does it, but its definatly something unique!! Imagine sitting around a campfire in the summer! He would be great entertainment!

Very cute video and not sure why your pup wants to sing along, but as soon as I started the video, Buster was doing head tilts and low happy growls.

Hey....they could get a band together and go on tour!!!!

Well I have two explanations....either he really hates how your hubby plays the guitar or he really likes it. LOL

My dogs do that when we sing Happy Birthday, and like my explanation above, I think they either want to join in with the song, or they hate they way we sing alone...LOL

I can't answer your question but I have a couple for you...where do I send a check to get a copy of his first album ? Does he get along well with other dogs? And what's the closest Canadian border crossing to your place ?

I think both your family and Leo lucked right out when you found each other, he's one adorably sweet dog .

THat video is too cute! WHat an adorable dog!
Lots of dogs sing; I"ve known countless huskies who do, think it's related to howling. THey always did it when they were happy so let's guess that your Leo is happy too!

So cute

Often times it's just the right sound pitch/tone that will get dogs to howl, my Sibes would howl if I howled at them but they would only start once I got to a certain pitch/tone. My Dal x Lab would only howl at sirens or train whistles but he would only do it when he couldn't see anyone watching him

If you look at wolves each one has a different pitch/tone when calling the pack - it's part of identifying family vs territorial enemy.

Brina "sings" with hubs when he plays his banjo, harmonica or guitar also, if we tell her "sing softer" it turns into a grumble. and she'll do the whole song *L*.....she doesn't sing along with anyone else no matter how many men are here playing music. Our late beagle would sing along with the radio, anything *L*

That video is just too cute!

Our 2 female schnauzers will sing when we tell them to sing. We love getting them going. It's very entertaining.
